I don't have any ribbons yet and I have never finished in the first ten so far. My average of the 10 best pictures in 2004 is 6.1689.
My total average is only 5.4199, but I am pretty happy with this.
Some of the best photographers on the DPC, in my opinion, are my favourite photographers, and I think I didn't discover all of them yet. |

i'm actually quite happy with my year top 10 average of 6.4211 - though i think my task for next year is to get one in the sevens...
4.46 is the average of my worst 10 scores of the year...

What a great idea. It shows just how amazing the talent is here.
Although I have a looooong way to go to be a top photographer here, I did it just to see my average. I have only entered 15 challenges, and my top 10 averaged 6.038. I have 2 entered right now that are both at around 6.300 so these would bring my average up a little. I have to add I do already have me a ribbon which I was thrilled about.:) Hope to add to this one this coming year.

Here are my top ten for 2004. Not quite as impressive as some of the others in this thread but I'm happy with them. :) My top ten average score of 5.4165 is better than my current average score of 5.3352 but not by much. My last couple of shots really bring my average down.

These 10 average to 5.7766
It's just interesting to see them all together. I never realized that I choose dark colors so often!

I definitely don't consider myself anything near a top photographer, but this is what I've accomplished since I came to this site in March of 2004. No ribbons, no great awards or anything, but I have learned a lot and made a lot of good friends.
My top tens scores average 6.0753 (phew!). Here they are from highest to tenth highest.
6.552 6.301 6.225 6.129
6.088 5.944
5.903 5.902
5.868 5.840
Thanks for everything everyone! It's been a great first year.

NOWHERE near the top, but I was kinda jazzed that my top ten shots averaged out to be a 6.39. My goal for next year is to have at least three shots break 7. I had one this year, which is exciting since I had no clue what I was doing (and still don't to some degree but I'm learning!). I love seeing everyone's best of the year...this is a great thread! :o)
I also think I might try to use more vibrant colors...these shots together show me how "neutral" my palate has been this year! ;o)

Good start to the year, with an 8.3
and then the rapid decline
With a better finish towards the end with a 6.9

I am looking for some trend in my shots...well, definitely, it is quite clear looking at my photos. I am also looking for some way to pay tribute to my models...this is it!
I have 4 of my beautiful students as models of my top 10 shots in 2004. Thanks to them. I have 3 pictures of children I don't know. Also my big thanks to them. I have 1 picture of a woman who probably have no idea that she is a DPC celebrity now in "Touched by the Evening Light"....I don't know her and she wasn't aware of the shot. Thanks to her too as it started my real knack for portrait photography after receiving favorable comments from DPCers. I only have 1 (one) non-portrait shot in my top 10 scorers. I am probably a disaster in non-portrait shots? Anyway, Here they are....
8.250 7.677 7.590
7.541 7.508 7.083
7.090 7.077 6.891
6.824
My average: 7.3531.
A tall order to duplicate next year...I suppose I can always look back to 2004 as my best year. I learned alot from you guys and I would thank you over and over again.
Manny

Just to quench the curiosity to see who was "#1" based only on their top-10 pictures, I "ran some numbers"... up through the "Authority" challenge, there have been 5548 different users who have submitted pictures to challenges. Of those, only 1171 have 10 or more challenge entries.
Averaging the 10 highest-rated pictures of those 1171 users and then sorting by the result, the top 25 came out as follows:

OK, starting with "Action Shot" (the first challenge where you could submit a shot taken in 2004), there were 3460 different users who submitted to challenges, and 645 of those have had 10 or more shots entered since Action Shot. Wow, cool stats! What's most interesting to me is that there are only 5,548 submitting users, and that fewer than 1,200 have 10 or more entries. I assumed, with ~30,000 users, those numbers would be lot higher.
The 2004 stats are even more striking!

I didnt realise it was just for 2004 until I saw the others saying 2004 and you mentioning it. I took out those two and redid the average. Still above 7 so that's not bad. Thanks for pointing it out! |

Can you do a similar "run" to determine how many unique voters there were in 2004?

Unfortuantely I don't have access to the database to determine that info; that would have to be something D&L would have to "analyze". |

This probably isnt the thread to suggest it, but it seems getting those breakdowns were fairly easy and quick for Eddy to do and I think it would be a fun addition to the site. That way photographers can see if they go up or down the list and it's something to aim for. It gives those votes meaning after a challenge is over. Friends often compare scores or how they are doing or the like and this would also be a way for them to have a little competition. |

I'd be curious to see the overall average for the same period. My top-ten (all entries) is about 5.9, but my overall average is in the mid-four range. I think it would be interesting who is "consistently good" and who explores all regions of the voting spectrum. |

Great thread and stats. Good work, guys.
Eddy, Can you run it again but go all the way down to 5.99?
I'm pouting. :( Nothing like a rude awakening on a Sunday morning.
(I have improved from last year's 5.3 so I guess there's hope.)
