Amazing drama unfurled in the skies before me while I shot this. The distant thunder was rumbling while the sun shone warmly over the bay, but the peace was ended around 10 minutes later when the storm finally hit.

Great weather for kite surfing, sand sailing and flying my parafoil kite (which nearly took me off the ground).

fantastic composition and drama. Perfect placement of sail and jetty- and the eye is led nicely up to the blue part of the sky, creatinga feeling that the sailboat is moveing away towards the left of the shot. well done.

Congratulations, this is a wonderful image! A long overdue ribbon for a talented creative photographer. Didn't you just post somewhere that you were not planning to ribbon anytime soon? Anyway, good to see recognition of fine work.

Jon, there is definitely strong sense of drama in this shot. The area where the shadow is dim is very powerful, it dares you to walk up to it to discover. Great shot congratulations.

Thanks everyone! It was bit like waking up to snow on Christmas morning - but without the snow and the Christmas.

I'm a little depressed now though because it has somewhat ruined my long run of absence from the home page. Ahh well... back to the drawing board...

Overall, I like this photo. The wooden(?) blocks in the dirt seem to draw my eye away from the sail and I don't that's what you had in mind. Remember to use leading lines to your advantage.

Beautiful image taken in the type of conditions that I have been hoping to encounter for quite some time (Bright sunlight against an inky black sky).
You have certainly made the most of this opportunity.
Very well done.

Very nice capture. Looks like a storm is coming. I really like how the sail is set in the darker part of the photo making it stand out against the dark clouds. I like the color tome of this photo and that there is a strongly defined horizon. Good luck with the challenge!!!

Wonderfully dramatic photo, excellent composition, good colours - most things about this are rather fine. Don't know that I could see it in a travel guide. Where is it? What's so distinctive about it as a location? But maybe ... so I don't mark you down.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
09/09/2004 10:08:15 PM
I could be wrong, but the clouds seem a little overprocessed by a possible oversaturation of blue...I don't know what it is exactly, but something doesn't quite look right.

But let's ignore that for a sec...a nice photograph compositionally with a neat mood to it (rainy in the background, sunny in the foreground). I wish I could see more texture in the posts (?) and the sand, though.

This is an absolutely beautiful image. As a photograph for a travel guide, what is there to do? Who goes there? Where is it? I would have rated it higher except it doesn't answer any of those questions. A perfect 10, IMHO, would.

Lots of WOW due to incredible lighting! Perfect composition with the horizon and wind sailer. Great sky. There's nothing I would suggest to improve this image (which is rare indeed for me.)

I like the contrast between the dark rainy sky and bright flats (I assume Great Salt Lake?). Not sure I would use it in a travel guide though as a tourist would prefer a sunny sky (unless they were one of us : ) )
