Light-painted self portrait in pins.

I made the shape, pushing my face into the PinArt, then shot from the back, lighting it from below right. Shooting from behind gave more space between each pin and accentuated the illusion of what should be sticking out or pushed in.

Much detail was lost though due to the compression of my JPEG which resulted in 44% of the original in order to meet DPC requirements. Shame about the limit in my view.

> Dupe layer > burn on 'Lightness' channel

The thumbnail is intended to be clearer. That's the point of demonstrating the theme of this challenge!

i understand now why i wasn't overly impressed with this despite how much i thought it fit the theme, and was unique ( sort of ).

i have a foliage shot saved at 65%, and i was very disappointed with the loss of fine details, even at that compression.

44% compression is too bad.

I still say this was a Top 10, and surprised it didn't ribbon.

My favorite of the challenge, and 13th isn't anything to sniff at.

*GREAT* photo.

Really a shame this didn't ribbon. I agree that the thumb looks better. But it would make a great print.

returning for comments:
There are certainly enough implied lines as well as implied patterns. A good use of this devise.

I like it but I'm afraid it'll get killed in the voting. Interestingly, the thing I like best about it is the thumbnail.

the most unique concept in the challenge; probably a very difficult focus to get. I like the lighting and texture feel. Good job.

You've pretty much epitomized what this challenge means to me with this photograph, which is absolutely gorgeous. If this isn't a ribbon winner, I'm the Queen of Kamloops.

My favorite of the challenge, and my only 10. A stunning piece of work, and as I said, there are so many ways that this photo implies lines.. it's almost criminal.

good example of implied; the mind connects the dots.

Fun idea! Now I want to try that. I like the choice of colors. It's similar enough to skin tones that it doesn't make me think "Why is that person oddly colored?" but it's also bright and unusual enough to emphasize that it's the pins we're looking at, not the actual face. The face is a little bit hard to see in the full size photograph. It was obvious in the thumbnail, since my eyes didn't have to wander so much to take it all in, but I'm not positive I'd have known what I was looking at had I not seen the thumbnail first. Of course, that just makes it even more "implied". :)

Though I have seen this exact photo done many many times, you are one of the few people who I felt nailed it. The lighting, perspective and focius is dead on. \
Good job.
