Haven't entered for a while, but my top ten average for 2004 is 6.646

My average is 6.023, just squeaked past that 6.00. Hey, I have 2005 to look forward to doing better.
The longer I am here, the more I respect those who are able to consistently take quality photos. There is some great talent here. |

Looking at all these great shots is rather depressing. My top 10 average was only 5.287 which really doesn't help. Just have to try harder this year or some of you lot could just give up. :)

I know what you mean thommo. My TOP 10 of 2004 averaged only 5.3872. But let's look at it on the bright side, we have more room to grow. And Zoomdak; There's that rock again![lol] But I still love it- You did a great job in 2004 and I believe you will continue in 2005.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that the average of my top-ten entries was slightly better than middle-of-the-road at 6.1405. If I had guessed I would have said maybe 5.50. It’s not a super good average, and no ribbons yet, but I’m still tryingâ€Â¦ once in a while anyway. :)
I like to look at it this way -- I only have to improve my average by less than 1.5 points to get to the top!

A number of people have quoted there average score for their top 10 images. And most have made the same error.
If you scored 5.5 and 6.0 and 6.5 for 3 photo's then the average of your averages is 6.0
((5.5 plus 6.0 plus 6.5)divided by 3) = 6)
but you average score is something different. You need to use the number of votes cast for each picture to calculate this.
i.e.
Av = 5.5 ... Votes = 200 ... total = 1100
Av = 6.0 ... Votes = 198 ... total = 1188
Av = 6.5 ... Votes = 380 ... total = 2470
Total number of Votes cast = 200 plus 198 plus 380 = 778
Total Score = 1100 plus 1188 plus 2470 = 4758
Average Vote = 4758 divided by 778
= 6.1157
Unfortunately you have to open each individual picture to find out the number of votes cast.

Another numbers nut...good to see...I was thinking the same thing.
I have a spreadsheet in Excel that is now tracking all my averages for both images and voting.
