Very little editing. Just a bit of sharpening and b&w. I thought it was a unique combo of converging lines. B&W seemed appropriate for this shot.

Thanks for all of the helpful comments. I took this shot at about 6am one morning, when there were no people out. The slow shutter speed helped to get the effect on the water. I had gone out without any intention of taking the photo. In fact, I had to find a place to set my camera down and use as a secure surface for this photo because I did not have a tripod with me and the shutter speed (2.5 seconds) was way too slow for handheld. I snapped about 15-20 shots, but the very first shot was the best. This shot is of a slums in Brazil that is built over and along side the creek. Only some of the houses have electricity and none have indoor plumbing. During the rainy season, the water will rise above the wooden walkway and people will use canoes to get to thier homes. A very unique location and by far my favorite photo that I took for this competition. Thanks again for all the useful comments.

Very effective use of B & W for this shot.
One of my favorites in this challenge.
Has the look of a village in the far east. Was it?
Well Done.

Congratulations on your 11th placing. This is a memorable image because it has everything that a critic wants: Good contrast, good detail, great composition and such nice subject matter.

Great shot - I thought about this shot a lot before scoring but finally ended up going with my 1st impression which was good -

A nice tonal image, plenty lead-ins, the river, the walkway. If anything lets it down slightly its the bland sky. I would seriously consider cropping right down to the roof of the second building on the right, just above the talest telegraph pole.

wonderful composition but for me I feel too much going on for the disapearing perspective, it has an overall emotional grandness - nice

Nice capture of a local scenery ... a scene that can only be found in this particular location. I don't know where it is ... but I am sure it is unique for this locale. And that's where the beauty of this picture lies ... not only it very well portrays the vanishing point, but it also portrays local color.

B&W seems to bring out the grittiness of this shot. I also like the texture/comparison between the water and the wood. 7

Excellent composition..I also like the contrasty exposure ..but the wooden pathway is the key to success for me in this image in the way it leads the eye straight into the picture.
Good luck..9

gritty, photojournalistic image. Nicely done.

Stunning composition!
Contrast & lighting are right on, as is the tone. A tad bit on the over-sharpened side for me, but may have been a result of image sizing & compression?
A well-deserved ((8)) and one of my top 13 favorites in this challenge!

I like this shot a lot. I would crop off a bit of sky as it's less attractive.

Gorgeous image and interesting subject matter, I feel that your choice to go B&W was definetly the way to go on this one.

I like this. B/W seems like a good choise for this pic. Clothes on the line and junk along the river has a tendency to have bright colours taking the attention.
