My favorite pictures from 2004 are in no specific order but you could spot a common theme to most of them...
and there's another personal favorite of mine, but I wouldn't consider it to be a photograph for I prefer it's ps-edited version over the actual photograph:

I have so many photographs that I have not even processed yet so it was hard to choose. I basically had to stop working on my photos and photo shoots because I ran out of HD space. I just got a new 250gb HD for Christmas and I am in the process of re-organizing all my storage. I really hope starting in 2005 to be able to enter more challenges.
When we returned from our vacation to the Canyons this past summer I had 20gb of photographs on my portable hard drive! So between the vacation photographs and the other photo shoots I have done I will be busy for quite awhile processing images :)
I went through the photos I have presently stored on Pbase and these are some of my favorites from 2004:

I just want to say I have learned so much from DPC this past year and have made a lot of new friends! I can't thank all the members enough for all the great help and information we have shared.
The biggest event of 2004 for me was the DPC Fossil Rim Safari. We had such a great time and I hope to be able to do it again in spring of 2005.
Looking forward to DPC 2005!

DING DING DING! WHOOP WHOOP! That makes you the 100th person to realize the obvious and mark Sher as a favorite. There should be balloons and confetti and sirens... and 100 more. ;-)

As are you Sher! I don't know how I've gone this long without adding you as a favorite photog because your photos are exactly the style that I love and aspire to. So now that little oversight has been corrected. :-)
Again, thanks to this this thread my favorites lists are growing. Lovely, lovely, lovely.... :-) |
thanks so much, jen! (hugs)

Edit - OK, let's start over. I misread and posted my favorites of other people. Silly me! Here are mine from 2004 using my old Fuji 4900Z camera. I have now switched to a D70 but will leave those shots for next years post.

good for him and we have raised enough funds for his operation
in march, next year. heartfelt thanks to all who have made
this possible.

I haven't sorted through any of the thousands of pics I took on the 2 month Africa trip or the ones I took on the recent Antarctica trip but I know from brief glance through that some of my favourites would be amongst them so I'll choose 10 just from portfolio/ entries.
Random order:

I am truly amazed by some of the work that has been done by DPC members in 2004! This was a thin year for me from a photography perspective, but I did start pointing the camera at people for something besides snapshots.

here's my favourite top 10 challenge entries I've knocked out this year, but in no particular order (must admit, it was fun reviewing them):
(6.177) i particularly liked this shot especially of my muse and missus, janet. her eyes just look fab in it, and (as some noted) i was reasonably pleased with the matching of the lipstck with the wall. i think she looks particularly sexy (i have this weird thing about white shirts!). the crop, though not traditional, i think added something to it. i think i might revisit this shot (and others from the series) now that i've learnt a few more skills with post editting...
(5.884) very disappointed with the score of this one. i'll admit it is over exposed though... I have a bit of an unhealthy obseesion with the Jubilee line Line extension of the London Underground network, all the stations are fantastically photogenic. This was the first time I ever played with Curves in PS, and I was thrilled with the results. I totally misunderstood the challenge on this one, thinking it had to be somewhere new, and not a new theme of picture taking. oh hum.
(4.873) quite shocked it did so badly. I thought it was quite pretty, and the effect was purely by chance. I guess the focus was too soft to appeal to the masses...
(5.815) much fun was had taking this! there is a great penguin area (and seals too) in Colchester Zoo, strongly urge every Brit to go there at some point. first time i applied a diffused glow in post editting. pleased as punch with the results.
(4.607) not surprised it did so badly, it's as ugly as hell this picture. though, very much an Erith type of shot - so i guess there was no way i was gong to score well. I like it though, the griminess and sleaziness has, i feel, some character, and that's why it's one of my top 10s.
(6.073) oh, the guilt of chopping off a poor bunnies ears, and shoving starbucks stirrers up them to make them stand up. though there was no originality in this shot, i am still happy with it - though i'll concede i over did the post editting on this one.
(5.183) it's inclusion is purely because it's my first ever submission to a site that has entertained me so much over the year. so it's very sentimentally important.
(6.097) took this on my fifth wedding anniversary weekend. earlier in the day we actually went on it (it's the london eye, and it's massive) and this was taken walking back to Waterloo after a Siouxsie and the Banshees gig. So it has happy connotations. I liked the sky, too.
(5.578) my dream job (apart from car designer0 is record sleeve designer. this is also one of my first ever candid shots, so I have memories of being unusually and especially brave on this one. i feel it has and conveys a chill-out album look. true, the girl on the left kept moving her arm, but i was still happy with it, and i wasn't brave enough to take a second attempt!
(6.538) i like shooting cars, and of the lot i think this is my favourite. the subject matter i felt suited the selective desat nature of the challenge, and (aside from the lack of driver) felt that the motion blur is moderately convincing. gorgeous ferrari too, so was hapy getting this close to it. |

Here are the ten that happen to have made my list at this point and time --- just personal favorites of mine. Some great shots on this site this year. Some of these include the newly re-edited versions that I haven't uploaded for the lack of portfolio space. All comments and critiques are highly appreciated.

Of course, I have more than ten shots that I love, but these are just the first to come to my mind. Enjoy and thanks for a great year...

I think the great thing about this thread is that it has made a lot of photographers upload some brilliant photos that wouldn't otherwise be on the site.
Great to see the quality of people's non-dpc work! |
