Someone please tell me how to post my image HERE!
But....
Hands down, this has to be the best comment! - from KD10guy

He had a headache when he awoke that morning, and tried to tip himself out of bed to go to the medicine cabinet for some aspirin, but as he tried to move his legs out from under the covers, he found that the muscles that he had grown so used to using, simply weren't there anymore.

Instead, an alien feeling rushed through his brain, and spoke to him of many limbs that he hadn't had before. It was then that he began to panic, and by some instinct or sheer force of will and luck, did then manage to fling himself from the sheets, and he fell flat on the floor.

He struggled there for a time, those alien impulse and feelings fighting with his desire to work only two sets of arms and legs, the idea of his humanity that had been with him for 30 some years fighting with this sudden and growing realization that something was very, very wrong with that idea.

Again, through some instinct, he managed to stumble upright, and opened his eyes. What he saw choked a strangled gargle from his throat. He would have screamed, but it seemed he no longer had the mechanics for such a thing anymore. In place of his mouth, were a pair of giant pincers, and what his eyes showed him, was a view of outside, from his window, but it was scattered and shattered into a grid of images that overwhelmed him completely. His first thought was that he had gone insane, or this was some kind of hallucination, perhaps brought on by aneurism or some other brain malfunction, but no. As he stood there unblinkingly (he had tried to do that as well, but there was physical ability to do so), it suddenly dawned on him in a final and horrific realization.

He wasn't human anymore.

And as his pincers clenched and his multiple legs began to twitch as the muscles within finally bridged the gap between his old memories, and his new sense of being, and his eyes saw only a multitude of broken images, his human mind finally snapped completely and was lost.

Some time later, in the streets below, came the screams as the giant beetle emerged from the apartment block in search of food, and loosed upon the world a vision of a Kafka Nightmare.

Whether puppies or ladies the comment is the same
Dr.Confuser Don't assume that because you have an affinity for your subject, the rest of the world will too. Otherwise, nice semi-candid snap.

Actually, I liked getting over 50 comments on a photo that scored 5.3. Thanks to all who commented.

But not all of the comments were the same for people, puppies, and children.

Dr.Confuser I can feel your affection for your subject. Well conceived, captured, presented.

And thank you all for the comments.

WickedSound:

I really enjoy this shot. Been looking at it for a while trying to put the words together. Even without the title, the guy fixing his bowtie does look as though he's getting ready for a show. What I like is everyone else is also dressed nicely, doing their own thing, as if the show is close to starting. It's impressive because it doesn't look staged. But the best thing I love about this is the person in the middle who doesn't fit. And I've wondered if they're not the actual one getting ready for a show. This shot really makes me think and look deep into your thoughts when looking at this before snapping the shot. The only suggestion I can give it the water in the fountain. It looks as though it's a little blown out. But seeing the light on the ladies heads on the left tells me it's directly on the water which probably didn't help at all. Not sure if it was unavoidable. Ok done with the war a peace comment, great photo, really, really enjoyed viewing this.

Out of many great comments, I originally thought this was an odd one: Adamsw216 - Image feels a little dark all around and I don't think I'm feelin the post processing on this. My thought? This is a silhouette! Of course it's dark!

But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that everyone has his/her own set of eyes, and there might be 1100 different ways to shoot/process it. So thank you to all who commented and shared your thoughts. This was a fun challenge!

I LOVE THIS! LOVE IT! What fabulous detail in that bird in action. And there's something about the contrast between the powerline and the wildlife that really grabs me -- and the intensity on his face. What a great photo!

Peter had never been the brightest bulb in the lamp, and everyone had always said that he would one day suffer for his constant naive curiosity and tendency to get into mischief.

Well, came a day when those predictions came all too true, for Peter had flown down, thinking he had spotted the fattest, juiciest treat he had ever seen, just sitting there out in the open like that on that pole. His greed got the better of him, and his lack of any real intelligence or common sense laid the groundwork for that fateful moment.

He alighted on the pole, and with a gleam of hunger in his eyes, stretched out his talon, and attacked...

... and with a sharp snapping sound and buzz of sparks and light, well, no longer could they say that Peter wasn't the brightest bulb, for he lit up like a christmas tree in the square that day.

was awesome getting 60 comments and everyone of them were great...thanks guys

I think my title, kind of through off a lot of people.

This was a good comment.

I must be daft - I don't see the illusion :( I've sat and stared for quite a while now, I have to move on to the next. ... Third time around, I've sat and stared for a few more minutes. Whatever the illusion you have caused me to view your photo longer than any other in the challenge, bumping up your score!

The best comment I received was from Ken:

"This is one of the few "wow" shots I've seen in this challenge. Your theme of contemplation comes through immediately, but as I view this it goes much deeper. The position suggests that the subject is contemplating about something not so good, and that's verified by lack of a real face. The background you've chosen suggests movement and energy to me, especially the "waves" coming off the area near hands. Low key works perfectly here.

I would love to see this on the front page come rollover. New fave."

Thanks, Ken!

Voted earlier coming back to comment now. Wonderful shot of this eagle in flight!!! Love the details that can be seen in the outstretched wings, the feathers in the body and tail! Great colors too! I HAD been trying to get a shot like this for close to two years but never succeeded - they just travel too fast for me to get the focus right and/or they see my camera and have this UNCANNY response to fly off IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FAR FAR away from me! Kudos to you for getting such a lovely shot.

I got loads of great comments.

This comment made me really smile.

K10DGuy They never did discover what happened to him after that incident near Jupiter in 2001. They had assumed he had been destroyed with the ship, and had never really lamented his loss, being a sad and flawed example of Artificial Intelligence in their mind.

Yet he had not been destroyed, not he. In a universe beyond our own, amongst a swirl of colors, he existed still. Slowly, he returned to what consciousness he could claim and parted a sheet of the swirling spectrum and glanced about with apprehension and care. Then, seeing an expanse of a universe new to him and ripe for the picking, the glow of his eye brightened, and one might even say it looked like a grin.

HAL9000 looked about, and saw nothing but a place to rule.

I'd also like to mention a few other users who obviously took time and thought about what they wrote.

CNovack Voted earlier coming back now to leave comments. WOW!!!! Such vibrant and bold colors in this abstract that reach out grab you by the collar and scream 'look at me!" BTW, my youngest spotted this on the screen and said "That's cool!" It is indeed very neat and spectacular to look at. The play of curves both on the waves and the red ball show off pleasing shapes and lines that captivate the eye. Now back to the color - they are vibrant colors of the rainbow and this rainbow of color and shapes is very appealing to look upon. I can imagine this hanging on a wall to add some vibrant color to a room or even hanging up in a modern designed and upscale restaurant. Ach...sucker for the color and shapes seen here bumping up to an 8.

Ursula In some ways this is very, very beautiful. The colours are outstanding, and it is quite commendable that you managed to keep the gradients smooth, no banding that I can see (except on the ball, the banding there is noticeable).

I think what is keeping me from really liking this image is the ball. From a technical POV, the colour on it is too different than the colours of the papers, it is too strong maybe. There is the banding. But most of all, the halo around the edge! In a very graphic image like this one, that halo really doesn't work and distracts quite a bit.

But it certainly is an eye-catching creation! It even looks somewhat like an eye peeping through a courtain.

I was very happy that that many commenters saw in this little photo what I saw in it. I think Dr.Confuser summed it up the best: "...the notion of youth. Part grown up, part afraid of growing up. Trying so hard with so little to try with. And trying out attitude." Thank you, Dr.C!

[WickedSound] This is just about as cute, funky and odd as you can get. First off - this shot is like one in a million. Never seen a better photo showing the contrast between man and nature. The Owl just looks so out of place, on a railroad track of all places. =) On the photo itself, spot on. DOF is perfect and love how everything around him is oof but it still draws the line of the track out of the picture. The Owl is in good focus and has good color - plus he/she is cute. Great photo and I truly think it's a gem. 9

Just about all my comments were one-liners, but 99% were totally, wonderfully positive. Just for fun a break-down of the most commonly applied terms to this image:

Cute (or adorable, or variations thereof) - 21 mentions

Great detail (or focus, or variations thereof) - 26 mentions

Great DOF - 10 mentions.

And yet it scored sub 5.5!

I got two warm post-challenge comments which really surprised me, since I scored looow at 17%, and I never expected anyone would see my photo after the end of challenge:
aliqui: I'm really starting to think that if I love a photo I'm cursing it from scoring well on this site. I'm sorry I love your photo!
krnodil: Exceedingly underrated - excellent choice of DOF and impressionistic OOF elements.

And I got 61 in-challenge comments, and that feels really good, most of them were really positive, like:
Bear_Music: Much stronger on second pass than first, for me. A lovely effect, great control of DOF, real old-timey feel to the light & color. 8 from me.
Lonni: Oh I love this! I haven't seen such beautiful bokeh for quite a while, and I LOVE that the subject is enveloped in it. Your choice of border is wonderfully complimentary to the image. The greens, the browns, SO beautiful!
Bebe: I really like this image. The choice of focus works well for me; it surprises me & then I like it.

This commenter summed up my concerns about the image perfectly:
andrewt:
interesting selective focusing, I like it, 6
came back to comment on this a little more.
Would have liked it even better if you had:
- included a little more at the bottom
- selectively sharpened and increased contrast slightly of the immediate foreground

Thank you all for commenting and voting!

Great street portrait. Powerful expression, and the eye contact works so well. The cigarette conspires to the expression as well. A glimpse into an interesting life makes life more interesting for the viewer as well! Well done.

This looks like a fascinating fellow - somehow the look I'd imagined of some scoundrel you'd meet in Bombay. Reminds me a bit of Ricardo Montalban for some reason. I think it is the eyes. Very nice shot.

He seems like he'd be a pirate, I think it's the mustache and the earrings that make me think this. Great cultural portrait.

comment from Dr.Confuser

"I like the strong colors ... which give kind-of-a-nuclear feeling to the image. The composition is dynomite. Focus is strong. But in the end ... I simply resonate with this. Are we seeing the world through Roz-colored glasses? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks."

Dr.Confuser - We've seen an aweful lot of guitars over the years but this is about the best I've ever seen. Black background was inspired. The form and shape of the guitar are pleasing. The color is subtly managed. DOF is powerful. Among best in class.
CNovack - Voted earlier coming back to leave comments not. Wow, what great detail and DOF on this shot of the guitar!!! I love how you composed it such that the neck acts like a leading line that runs off to the vanishing point to the horizon. Very much like a pathway for the eye to travel upon. But that same pathway needs a little something to add extra zing to this photo.....Hmmmm. Hey! You know what would be really cool?!?! If you could get this same wonderful set-up and have it on a stage such that the neck of the guitar leads off to the seats in a theatre with what appears to be stage spotlights shining on the guitar in both upper corners of the composition. Lights, music, PLAY! It would have a look and feel of getting ready to put on a music show with just the guitar and the backdrop setting (pardon the pun) the stage for projecting that idea to the audience. If you have any way of accomplishing this I highly recommend doing it. It might mean going out of your comfort zone and asking someone you know connected to the theater to use it or asking a complete stranger for use of their facilities with the promise to credit the place in the commentary as a form of advertisement. The worst they could say is no. But if they say yes, and all elements come together this great above average shot could be catapulted to the exceptional category of 9 or 10 just by applying some star power (and yes that is a guitar hero reference;-) )
