I was out shooting in Flint, MI. and this guy came up and told me he was going to be the next mayor and that he knew I would want him in my shot. Well, with the baby blue suit and a tie with the Ten Commandments, you know I did! So he pulled his hat out of his bag and struck a pose. He talked politics to me the whole time.

What a character - and you have captured the eccentricity well. The choice of processing is very clever, with the would-be mayor as one with the statues, or perhaps like an animation character, not quite real!

Really like the style you gave this. The processing really makes the man seem like part of the statuary. I like your story too.

Terry, this is awesome! The processing is perfect - it beautifully captures his "character". So did he win the election? hehe.

Very clever processing - don't listen to anyone who says it's overdone because it's perfect to show the "real" similarity to the statues.

This is where extreme editing can work. Nice capture and editing. Your subject looks remarkably like the statues he is posed beside. Bump in score.

Oh that's a cute composition. A bit overdone on the HDR for me (I am not a fan of HDR) but others will like it.

Excellent idea and composition. HDR treatment works fantastic here (I assume it's HDR. If not - all the better).

Monochrome might have added to the illusion. A little too much high pass or topaz adjust. Great idea though, quirky and fun...

I personally don't usually go for this kind of processing but it does help the man look more like the two statues he is posing with.

the bag and gloves are a bit distracting , a closer crop may actually help, bringing more of the hdr detail into view.

I wonder how this would have looked if the statues had a little less of the post processing. To make the figure look even more like them?

03/13/2009 02:53:04 PM
not usually fan of this editing style but I think, in this case, it works well. It makes the human look more like the statues and I had to look twice to verify which were real and which were not, which intrigued me. And his bag and coat echo the statues; even his blue suit mirrors their verdigris somewhat. Very well thought out, or a lucky take. at any rate, I like what was put into this, thought wise, to make it work so well. 8 been through all the others, bump to 9 because I enjoy looking.

I have to admit that the "Dave Hill" look is usually a bit annoying to me, but it really works here. I love how the processing really duplicates the appearance of the statues.
