Hey, we have something over 550 posts in this thread so far and most have images. And there are some AMAZING images, I might add.

And we are only 25% of the way through the year!!

So, let's bring some of the cream to the top.

* Post up to five (5) of your favorites from the first quarter here. This will be tough, because there are SO many good images. I can easily find 15 or more images that are amazing.

* DO NOT post your own images, post other people's images.

* Please make a comment in the thread about why you think it is a great shot.

Just an amazing portrait.

e301
I love the simplicity of this silhouette.

dainmcgowan
Stunning detail and so much for the eye to examine.

trevytrev
The IR is captivating and is perfect for this image.

mephisto
The B&W focuses the eye on all of the shapes and lines, the light and shadows.

It was very hard to narrow it down to 5. So I forced myself to not choose two photos by the same person and that helped (a little). :)

SandyP
Just a beautiful serene scene. I want to be there.

nikolaos
I love the eerie dramatic look of the sky with the abandoned buildings.

jdannels
Such an awesome surreal landscape. Very sci-fi looking.

ErikV
Who knew lettuce could look so freakin cool?

Mephisto
I love this whole series. Great execution capturing a fascinating subject.

Just five?? A very difficult task indeed. In trying to narrow it down, I decided not to repeat shots already posted. Here are five more for the Hall....

This represents, to me, the joy, the wonder, the discovery and the fragile fleeting sweetness of youth.

As I mentioned in my comments, I can't quite put my finger on what draws me to this, but drawn I am.

My favorite of his so far. Why? Dunno for sure. The interesting depiction of the humans, the gathering of birds.. the way the whole thing works together, perhaps.

For the power of the emotion.

Because she's beautiful and Sherwin did a great job of sharing that with us.

I have a whole lot of others I'd like to include - I'm very much enjoying the work everyone is sharing in this side challenge!

Thank goodness, I stand corrected. There's nothing better than a well informed infant...I always say.

Since I'll probably never catch up with all this activity, but feel strongly about these two photos that come to mind without review, I better post 'em now:

mad_brewer's
and SherwinJames's

Two very different photos: the Fog is an essay in darkness, very intense, very focused and contemplative. Almost no human content, except for the artifacts; almost no nature, except for the fog, the atmosphere. Though you can read into it things like Wet Night on Lonely Street, it is not a picture OF anything. Except darkness. Light painting the darkness.

James's grandmother, on the other hand, is nothing but humanity, or what humanity should be in its full ebullience, unstaged. The details have supporting roles only. The viewer is immediately engaged with the spirit, just as one is plunged into the darkness of Fog.

I wish I could say all this better if only to understand more why these photos stay with me.
