Question:
What is the difference between a "Landscape" and a "Seascape"? I guess I missunderstood. |

I think seascape is a made up term. A landscape can include a sea front. |

A seascape is a landscape with the sea in it.
A landscape with no sea and no land is an OOBIE nomination.
You just can't win, really, except that really, you can't lose. Who knew?

I watched the thread wander back and forth on that and the conclusion seemed to be that as long as there was some land in it, a seascape was okay.....
NO land.....6.2197.....go figure!
ETA: I *almost* did not enter this shot but Catherine made a comment about three hours before rollover for this to enter, so I figured, what the heck....
Thanks, Catherine!
Oh......and someone PLEASE tell me why such a blatant violation of the Rule of Thirds did so well.....the horizon is dead center!

Because people like seascapes at sunset/sunrise? |

It's called symmetry which works well with centered subjects.
EDIT:
To expound more, let's do a compare contrast to your 6.2 image
and my 5.0 image
Both have centered horizons. It is not so much that centered horizons are bad, it is because generally the horizon chops the picture up.
So if you look at my image, you can see that the bottom portion tends to follow the traditional composition rules, leading lines on the right and a good anchor on the left to balance the photo. However, that is where my photo gets into trouble, the lines creates eye movement on the bottom than wham you hit that horizon the the picture is just static. It's too composing elements that don't work well together. My horizon should have been in the upper 1/3 or 1/4 of the image. I was actually more worried about capturing the moment rather than the composition (bad me).
Now yours is opposite. You don't have those lines in the image. Your subject, the sun, is pretty much dead center from there you have elements which create a "circle" around. The two birds and the relection. Thus your eye is focused on the middle and movement spreads outward from the center. Your strong composition would have been weak if the birds weren't there (well done on that part). The Horizon is actually the anchor in the photo. Typically you seem centered shots with a square format, but the standard format serves you well here because it is a landscape.
Nothing really surprising why your entry did so well. Cheers.
