I just received this notice on my homepage.

Has it been almost a year already? It's amazing how over the past year I have amassed such a wonderful knowledge base as well as good friends here on DPC.

30,000+ views in one year
5,934 Forum posts
144 times selected as a favorite photographer
484 photos faved by other users
74 challenges entered
2,300+ comments made
15,000+ votes cast
An interview which was a first for me
20+ fellow DPCers met for GTGs

A friend of mine suggested that I should take a look at this website as she had been a member for quite some time. She said that she thoroughly enjoys the camaraderie and knowledge trade on this site. After a few weeks of "snooping" around, I succumbed and bought my membership. I thought that $25 wasn't much and even if I didn't participate too much, I would have taken something from this site. So I gave it a try.

After my first challenge entry, I was hooked. In the past year, I have seen my skills blossom thanks to everyone who has actively participated on this site.

I would like to think that I have been a staple in this wonderful community and will hopefully continue for more years to come.

In that time, I have seen my fair share of mishaps and low averaging scores. I was thrilled on my second entry that I placed fourth, only to get a DQ. My first DQ was tough but "mk" definitely helped me out a lot. I thank her for that and will always will. But it turned out my entry seemed like a "fluke" a bit of luck if you will as more low averaging scores filled my profile page. But I never really did give up and strived to learn from the ones who excel on this site. Thanks to the help from all of you, I have improved my photographic skills and developed friendships along the way as well. I have always said that without everyone on this site, I will have never improved. For that, I am forever grateful to all of you.

It has been a tough road to improvement but one that I most enjoyed taking. The comment trades we've all participated in are wonderful. I truly enjoy comments that are critical and points issues that I most often overlook.

From my initial passison of architectural photography, I have spread out my wings and tried a variety of different facets in photography from studio setups to portrait photos. These mini-duels we have every now and then are great in trying to achieve a higher learning base and in the process improving the way one composes and displays their images. There are far too many people to thank in my recent development. I am sure that you know who you are and for that I thank you.

I have seen my photos improve dramatically as testament to these images. Here are some of my first images here on DPC.

And with the help from all of you, I have developed and strengthened my skills.

We've all shared in laughter and at times, in tears with all our dear friends. I hope to continue to share those moments with all of you as I look forward to another great year on this wonderful site.

Thank you everyone.

Cheers,

Rikki

Ah, hell... I'll admit he's a vampire, sure, but 6,000 posts in a year is a measly 500 a month. If Rikki wants to rank in the big time (and we all know he does) he needs to take a gander at yours truly: 11,290 posts in 16 months, or 700-odd a month. He may be able to out-ribbon me (in fact, he clearly is able to) but so far he can't out-talk me :-)

All kidding aside, I have often marveled as this typhoon-of-energy swirled among us, because HE keeps a full-time job, and I'M retired...

Is it really only a year, Rikki? It seems like forever to me...

Yeah Bear, I'm not a night owl as you are :P I don't think you sleep right? I mean, you're pactically glued to your PC :) And yeah, most of my posts have been after I come home which is usually at around 8pm :) Now what does that say about me? Hmmmmm...

:)

Are you actually renewing? Are you sure? Aren't you going to let us mortals have any chance to win??? LOL.
Just kidding. I think you're one of the (many) great photogs here. But photog in the wide way: you make wonderful pics, you give many comments in challenges, you participate in comments exchanges, you post, and post and post (even if you don't arrive to big Bear numbers)...
By the way, you were not in my faves, and you're now.
Keep going.

Sure I sleep; just not all that much at night sometimes. I'll go to bed at 7 AM and sleep 'til noon, say. I'll sleep for a couple hours after dinner, often. Then wake up and come back out here. I get a heck of a lot more work done at night than in the daytime. Middle of the day is no good for shooting, and the skylight BLASTS this desk with light and makes editing tough, so it's a good time to sleep. Wake up noonish, walk dog, eat, wander in, and I'm off to the races.

Unless I'm out shooting; and I can monitor the light from my desk...

He's gonna catch me in no time. I'm justraffing on him. And MY numbers pale beside people like GeneralIE, Jutilda, lots of people. I think, anyway. I've never really checked... Regardless, Rikki's a Percheron among men, he hauls heavy freight in these parts.
