It took me a long time to debate how to photograph this challenge. All week it was either a shot before sunset or something along those lines.

Today at work, one of my co-workers mentioned that he was changing a light bulb and it shattered just as he touched it. Then the "light bulb" in my head lit up.

Very minimal post processing for this image. Just adjustment of levels and slight rotation to crop out the clamp that was holding the bulb. Used NI then sharpened. Save for web.

If this were only advanced editing :( So many spots to clone out including hot pixels. Oh well. I hope to break 5.75 for this image but we'll see what the voters say :)

I really thought this was clearly the best one to meet the challenge specifics. The "suspense" of what mayb have happened is clear in this image. Anticipation is key I think. I just read your setup and it's quite inventive. I have to try it when I get a dSLR :)

BTW, your title is great. It's the "icing on the cake". Your image speaks for itself on it's own. That in itself is a great accomplishment.

Beautiful effect in the movement of the hammer. The red of the handle contrasts well with the bottom. The lamp too is apart from the scene.

not sure how this picture relates to the challenge ( I can be dense sometimes) but the action is excellent .. you really captured the shot - - great timing!

Nice idea, setup, and capture. I think a lit (low wattage) light bulb would have helped.

Nicely Done! Love the red of the hammer, really stands out and your point comes across clearly.

Great idea.. the reflection in the bulb is distracting, but I love the action and sense of suspense created with this shot.

this may have been unavoidable but I can see your reflection in the lightbulb. But the flipside to that is you can see a lot of detail. Very creative idea and well exicuted.

Good shutter control. Too bad for your shadow on the bulb. Nice take on the challenge and my pick for a ribbon.

Bummer that the light bulb isn't just WOW sharp. I like your idea; that would have really perfected this image. (don't you HATE when that happens.)

Nice take on the challenge, I wish you could have lit the bulb to hide the reflection of the person.

Wow! One of a handful entries that actually meets the challenge. I wonder how this image would look like if the bulb was lit. Great capture and motion blur. You have probably been asked about this but how many bulbs did you break to get this shot?
