I saw this homeless old fellow enjoying his soda and although he never really looked me in the eye, just from watching him, I saw contentment in his present situation. I took about 5 shots from a few feet away before he stood up, packed his soda in his shopping cart and strolled away... whistling. Indeed, life's simple pleasures.

This is a great photograph. One of those "wish I had gotten that shot" pix.

Good going!

It kinda looks over-sharped, but its still a deep shot with brilliant color.

I love this image, Rikki. It serves to remind us of the things we take for granted in life - especially simple things such as a can of soda. Thanks for sharing such enlightening photos.

Terrific editing job Rikki! Great colors & textures really add to the already present character of this shot. Beautiful work.

As did GentleSoul I searched your portfolio and this is my favorite. I love the frank stories behind the photos and your humour such as in the bike race with a friend. Mostly I enjoy the peace and strenth of this type of work above. My first favorite photo before understanding what a dpchallenge favorite even meant was a coffee pot brewing coffee. I can really sense the pleasure of the quenching thirst. I will add it to our favorite list so that our participants can react to your caption. I somehow would like to see a video clip of the whole scene including a view of you taking the shots as part of the frame. Keep shooting LTS.

What a delightful story. It almost looks like a Coke ad! You captured a wonderful moment. I like the detail in his face. Kind of raw and rough, yet he has a kindness aobut him. Good one.

Fantastic capture, Rikki! Your timing was perfect. This shot caught my eye out of your portfolio. It is at once poignant and precious. From a technical standpoint, your DOF and focus are excellent. The shot is well composed. Honestly, I wouldn't change a thing. I love it! Adding it to my favs.

i am an oversharpened fan because to me this picture looks almost like a painting. i really love this picture as you did it. joey 's version is a little too dark for me. i have enjoyed looking at all your work and as i always like to mention comments good or bad are always welcome on my pictures.

Awesome capture! Only problem is that it's (as others have mentioned) oversharpened. Really super capture, though.

I love photos like this. So much character and texture. I also like what Joey did with the grunge. Either way, both versions are great.

love this, but yeah too oversharpened as you know.
is there anyway to rescue the original, or was it really blurry to begin with? I can always help edit too if you'd like, send it my way :-)

This is a different view. Sometimes it is not the eyes that tell a persons story. And in this case you have captured a lot of his story becuase of the lack of eye contact, the posture, the dirty nails. Great Photo.

Wow! This is a great interpretation. I like the story behind it. It seems that you enjoy the whole photo and story telling aspect of it as well.

I wish I could see the eyes as others have mentioned but his profile isn't bad either. His scruffy face and dirty hands really adds to the flavor of this magnificent image.

My kind of shot and taking the profile angle here works great. OK, this may be cliché but an idea just came to mind and wondered how it would look in duotone with the coke cup in colour. I'm not a PS expert but I guess it wouldn't be a problem for you.

I really like a lot of things about this shot. The colors, textures, composition, and the mood. The write up is nice too but I already got the same feeling from looking at the photo. I like the processing you have done, however the edges around his face seem a bit oversharpened as they make him look almost like he was pasted in. There is also a strange looking area in the background right above the cup, perhaps you did some cloning there. Besides that the only other thing I would change, which of course you can't, is that you only see the white in his eye. The more I look at it I get a sort of creepy feeling, but perhaps that's because I just finished watching the exorcist.

Wow! The detail you've captured in his face is amazing. Excellent candid shot! Nice crop on it too!
