yesterday, lhall and i met up at the Photoshop Down & Dirty seminar and had a blast! they told us when it started that by 4:30 we'd need duct tape to keep our heads from exploding from all the stuff they were going to cram in, and THEY WERE RIGHT! the time-saving tips and keyboard shortcuts were worth the price of admission alone. i highly recommend this to anyone who feels their photoshop skills need to be pushed up a notch.
here are some fun/useless things i did when i got home. they are pretty much from the workbook. i just wanted to practice some things i learned before i forgot too much. the notes in the images have the steps.
pulling a 'polaroid' out of your image
'painting' photos
a different type of view
saving a boring photo (sort of...)
putting an image to work

for anyone serious about their digital photography, i cannot promote taking a class enough (even though the above image has absolutely nothing to do with photography...lol).

The seminar was fantastic, and my head felt like it would explode by the end of the day! Too much information! Skip's been busy practicing everything we learned, I got inspired to finish a project that's been sitting on my desk for months: a CD for a musician friend. (The background for the CD is "non-negotiable", it's a painting by his father that he wants for the background.)I tried using some of the collaging techniques we learned: (sorry, no tutorials like Skip did!)

these are awesome! Can these be put over in the tutorials or is there a way to have a "favorites" threads in a person's favorites along with photos and photographers?
These would be great to use and them put into a photo book for gifts (my mother would love this with all the grandkids and stuff) |

a couple more...
using text to mask an image
something of a collage...
thanks for the comments, glad ya'll are finding this 'useful'. if you are interested in more stuff like this, check out National Association of Photoshop Professionals. they are the ones who put on the seminars.
[note: i just joined yesterday, and can already see a ton of benefit. in another thread, scalvert differentiated between 'registered' users and 'members' as those serious enough about their photography to pay the $25 fee. i wouldn't say this organization is the be-all, end-all, but, i would say that a membership such as this can go a LONG, LONG ways towards enhancing your craft...] |

Ok, I lied.
The painting thingy I just can't get quite right. I think it's more that I can't find a good photo for the trickin'. But it's fun!
Cheers,

Jaysus, Skip, this is downright subversive when viewed alongside the thread on whether "editing" is "cheating"....

i guess it all depends on the audience ;-) i doubt if any of these would be useful for challenges, but family, friends, neighbors, and fellow scrap-bookers seem to enjoy them...

Please don't ever take those out of your portfolio - or at least warn me before you do!
Or perhaps I should save all these wonderful instructions to my computer. |

Are these things that can be done on Elements 3? (I hope)
I haven't really had a chance to learn E3 yet but I'm hoping that the answer to my question is yes.
Thanks for sharing... |
