just a little something i learned how to do at the PhotoShop Down & Dirty seminar...

putting a single image to work

1) open an image
2) do ctrl-j TWO times to make two copies of the original
3) click the eyeball on the 2nd copy to hide it
4) click on the 1st copy
5) type ctrl-shift-u to desat
6) type ctrl-u to bring up the hue/sat dialog. click on 'colorize' and set your
hue and lightness to make the image colored and somewhat transparent. click ok.
7) bring back the 2nd copy
8) if you haven't done so, check off the options for autoselect and show bounding
box
9) hold down the shift key and click on a resize box in one of the corners and drag
in towards the middle (this makes the layer smaller while preserving its scale)
10) move it to where you want it to be and hit the enter key
11) click the text tool, set your font type and size, and then drag out a box where
you want text to go
12) open up a document that already has your text, select it, and copy it to the
clipboard
13) go back to photoshop and paste your text into the text box
