just something i got from Classic Photoshop Effects...

adding a 'post-it' note...hehe

1) create a new, blank image 5x7 in, 72 dpi
2) click on the New Layer button at the bottom of the Layers palette
3) click on the Rectangular Marquee tool, and (this is COOL), while holding down the shift key, drag out a square
4) click on the foreground color swatch and set your foreground color to whatever color you want your post-it note to be (you don't have to use 'boring yellow'...)
5) hold down the Alt key and hit the Backspace key to fill your square
6) ctrl-d to deselect your square

7) now use the marquee tool to draw a bigger square around your square, then under the Filter menu select Distort, then select Shear. click on the middle of the center of the grid and drag it just to the left to put a little bend in then square. click OK
8) deselect with ctrl-d, then use ctrl-j to duplicate the layer

9) type D to set your Forground color to black, then Shift-Alt-Backspace to fill the new layer with black.
10) go to the Layers palette and drag note layer to below the yellow note layer
11) type V to select the Move tool and move the yellow layer to being offset from the black layer. use ctrl-t to bring up the Free Transform; then line up the tops of the notes, while skewing the bottom. hit the Enter key to lock in the transformations

12) to soften the shadow, under the Filter menu, select Blur -> Gaussian Blur, and set the radius to 3.5 pixels
13) you may need to go back to Free Transform to adjust the shadow position (probably at the left top)
14) set the layer opacity to around 60% to lighten the shadow a bit

15) set your Foreground color to white
16) ctrl-click your yellow note layer, then click the New Layer button at the bottom of the layers palette
17) type G and hit the Enter key (this brings up the Gradient tool). choose the 2nd gradient
18) drag from the middle of the bottom up to the top. ctrl-D to deselect, then set the layer opacity to 30

19) click the Text tool and drag out a text area box inside your yellow note. select a cool font and set the size to at least 24.
20) type in your text.

21) save as "whatever-template"
22) click the eyeball on the background copy layer to hide it
23) Shift-Ctrl-E to merge visible
24) save as something else

now you can drag this layer onto any other image!
