 just a little something i learned how to do at the PhotoShop Down & Dirty seminar...

showing an image through text
1) open a new blank document
2) select the type tool, set the font to something wide and large, type in your text
3) click the move tool and stretch your text to be as big as you want and move it to where you want. hit enter to apply transform
4) click the add layer mask button at the bottom of the layers palette
5) click the magic wand tool and make sure the option for 'contiguous' is UNCHECKED
6) click on one of the letters in your text
7) from the menu, select Edit - Fill, and set the color to black, click ok
8) from the menu, select Selection - Deselect
9) open the image with the background your want
10) THIS IS COOL: click on the background layer in the layers palette AND DRAG THAT INTO YOUR TEXT document (how COOL IS THAT!!!)
11) use the move tool to position/size your image where you want it to be
12) change your layer order (simply drag the new image layer to be below the text layer
13) click on the image layer and from the menu select Selection - All
14) rt-mouse click on the layer mask for the text and select Subtract Layer Mask from Selection
15) click again on the image layer and click the add layer mask button at the bottom of the layers palette
16) voila! save your document

I don't think this border is challenge legal (LOL)

Nice effect, and nice of you to document all these techniques for us.

Have you seen any of Scott Kelby's books? I have The PS Elements book fo r digital photographers, which is similar to this cookbook style for various corrections. Now, I use PS CS, but I haven't "upgraded" my book yet.

Sounds like a good seminar though!
