Well I do have to say that i think the best shot won this challenge but two which I really liked and that I thought were under-rated

Imagineer , which I felt was a top 10 shot at least

and

GeneralE , which no way warranted a 4.7

"seeing as she's married to him..."

Glad you didn't hold that against her.

I wish more people would follow your example of drinking heavily while voting.

JulietNN, the various ribbons in the different flavors are at the discretion of the givers. In all, they are ways to recognize shots other than the top three on the homepage. I'm not sure there are specific "criteria".

It's quite chaotic anarchic democratic. Anyone who takes the time to make a ribbon icon and give it a name gets their own ribbons to give out! And even if you don't, you can still declare your personal winners here.

Can my ribbon name be the X-Prize??????

The blurry challenge was really hard to score for me, as i was having an ms vertigo attack at the time, and the pictures sort of vibrated at me.

that said, there were tons that i really liked, so i'm going to pick my favourites from my top scorers. I had quite a lot of nines, so, in a completely arbitrary decision, i'm going to concentrate on the lower-scoring ones, leaving out some lovely images. those ones are the images that were recognised by everyone and given good scores. i'm not punishing the higher place images, i'm promoting the images i think had great merit but weren't recognised by the majority of the voters. i even had the yellow ribbonner in my top cohort - that makes for a change.

so:

pointandshoot ooo, wow, this just made me stop and gasp. the tones, grain, subject, composition... this is the kind of image that hurts to look at, because it's just so damned wonderful, and i could look at it all day long.

FocusPoint another simply stunning image. dark, soft, and truly sensual (in its proper meaning, although it's sexy too). for some reason i think of anaïs nin when i see this. which is a very good thing.

alexjack the motion, the intensity, and the viciousness all radiate from the image. you can hear the growling, snarling and scrabbling on the ground for purchase.

jonejess the colours in this are simply wonderful, the glowing gold and icy blue. i only just realised what this actually is, so the abstraction is superb too.

Majestie i have no idea what this is, but that doesn't matter. the sweep of gold through the dark is enough. and i'm not talking about the monty python version either.

edit 'cause i can't type...

Just throwing out one ribbon here though I had several ranked high. This one was just so strong IMHO.

Thank you! As someone mentioned, I found my image is somewhat reminiscent of the photo of Planet Earth floating in space -- I'm thinking of entering it in the Earth Day photo contest. :-)

I especially like being grouped with Imagineer's mountains, as those were one of my favorites as well.

I thought it looked like a Grateful Dead Album cover seen through glass.

Thanks Kali!
I'm glad you like it as I think a lot of people either didn't, or it wasn't blurred enough or whatever... ah well, if finished in the top half at least (barely)! I like your idea of "shoot what you want score be damned" that you mention on your profile--its a great philosophy on this site--although the high scores always do feel good!
