 Thank you all for so many positive remarks. Gee, they really help morale! And thanks are due to SaraR who encouraged me to keep experimenting after my last absolute disaster. I nearly did not enter this and it was only her remarks that made me have a go!
To those of you who said it was cropped too closely, I agree entirely. In the original there are two tiny specs of light that are reflecting on the fishing nylon that suspends the bag and no matter how I tried, I could not get rid of them without breaking the rules (if my interpretation is correct) so the only option seemed to crop them out, which was a shame (if anyone has a suggestion as to how I could have done it, I’d love to know; the increase in hue helped, but not enough).
To cns and any others who campaign for the removal of plastic bags, you are very welcome to use the photo if it will help your cause. When I lived in South Africa they adorned every barbed wire fence in their thousands, and were gradually shredded as the wind and the sun did their bit. Then the government made it mandatory to pay for each plastic bag issued by shops, and this measure probably had as much impact as any in their reduction!
Finally, a big thanks to hotpasta for welcoming me to the Melbourne group and reminding me that my camera ought to come out of its bag!

I think this is very well done in a number of ways, and meets the challenge well. I might play with the crop a bit, and might wish for a bit more space on the left side, but those are just tiny quibbles (is there even such a thing as a large quibble?) 9

They are a curse on the earth! Here you always see a WalMart bag flying or stuck in the trees.

Surprisingly interesting image for something that's a simple plastic bag.. I like the deep blues and how they permeate through.. But I amost wish the bag was more free flowing..

Well executed idea. The detail on the plastic bag is really good. The photo doesn't make me want to look at it. It's not very interesting. Sorry.

My pick for ribbon. Nice concept. Plastic bags with Blue sky works great. Plastic bags is one of the biggest concern.

Nice crisp image ,very colorfull, a few dust bunnies on the bottom left could have been cloned out. Good prespective and take on the challenge.

This is probably the best camera work i have seen involving nothing but a plastic bag. thinking of it, second best...after the scene from "American Beauty" movie. a little more negative space could have helped the shot btw. still i like this one a lot.
