i see your two spinning children, and raise you a third.
do you remember when we could do this without feeling like death immediately after, or just falling to the ground and vomiting? i used to spin and spin; now about two revolutions and i'm done

sometimes, merely keeping your cursor off the "sharpen" tool itself, is enough :) |

not only do my pictures lack sharpness. but they are extremely overexposed and tend to have ridiculous amounts of negative space :) and i love it :)

This could turn into Bizarro World where this image is too timid for the Challenge ahead.

I'm already involved in so much here. I'd love to play, but can't see myself finding too much time to comment.
I've been putting off buying a lensbaby because I'm scared of manual focus. Just in case I buy one in the next few days, is lensbaby 3.0 worth the extra expense? Please say 'no', because I'm not sure I can afford it right now.

I say there aren't enough pictures on this site with the word "perambulation" in the photographer's comments. |

If I could submit a 1000-word essay en lieu of a photograph, I might actually make a run at a ribbon one of these days. : ) |

A question for the gathering masses....
Technique? Are there suggestions/ideas as to techniques to try (besides lensbabies and vaseline) and how much is shot versus how much is post processed?
For instance, my "spinning" challenge entry was done by literally spinning the camera after manually focusing on a center point. I haven't tried zoom blur but that could be fun. I did try "miniaturizing" something with blur added in post processing. But I can't quite put a finger on some of the work that's been linked here - how they did it.
So maybe a discussion of ideas, techniques? Things to try? |

Lensbaby 3 is also manual focus, but it has crazy little lockable octopus legs that let you fix the focus. Honestly I can't see it being a huge benefit unless you're shooting static subjects while mounted on a tripod (the camera, not the subjects). If we're rejecting the bourgeois, Lensbaby2 is the only option. lensbaby 3 is too pedestrian for us. |

Well for me (like someone else mentioned) just leave the USM alone!! LOL. No really Deb, I normally end up with my most fav. blur shots with hand held slow shutter speeds, just a thought.

Here's one I took by throwing the camera in the air. :)

A twist on blur (I love this technique)
Kosmi opens the shutter for 2 seconds. While it's open he starts zooming in (or out - can't 'member). Then halfway through the 2 seconds, fires the flash. part sharp, part blur, all cool. Even with the dorky model.

I take quite a few pictures of lights/car lights while driving around at night -- the streaking patterns made as you bounce around can be interesting.

I'm one of those who quite often leaves USM alone. I often prefer the RAW unsharpened (but focused) version of a pic over the camera's sharpened jpeg. But then I remember it's DPC and I hit the USM button. :-) |

Webshot Pro Tip: Don't Poke
"....you've probably taken a blurry shot or two, which can be caused by the camera's slight delay. For the sharpest photos possible, don't poke quickly at your camera's shutter button. Instead, try holding down the button halfway to focus first, then wait to snap the photo when you're ready."
I'll poke....
