Sorry about the misunderstanding. I'm guessing the discussion about the side thread was not clearly defined or so many of us would not be offended.

peace,
Darlene

All that was proposed was a parallel thread where particularly interesting images might be discussed at length, because such discussion tends to get lost in the rapidly-growing main thread. It's NOT like a competition, for heaven's sake. And the way things are going in here I suppose it won't even happen, and that's a real pity.

Well Robert I hope you're wrong about it not happening, I'm in if it does so I hope so, am I a great photographer? LOL, not EVEN!! I like the subject of this side challenge and wish to become better at it therefore I will participate, as for the side thread I think it would be a good tool to hear more about the shots that stand out, you can never know whether you're good at something or not until you give it a shot. Some may be suprised to learn they have a talent for blur that they never knew existed. My perspective on this challenge is to shot for blur to add emotional impact to a shot that otherwise my be lackluster and that's the angle of attack for me, will I suceed? I don't know, will I get better? I hope so! will it be fun? It will for me because I going to have fun doing it and in the end thats all that really matters. Just my thoughts.

The Blurgeois Site Council?

I'm playing no matter what.

And if we do have such a council, Bear Music should be on it, since he has a valuable perspective based on years of experience with the likes Ansel Adams, or is that elitist of me to say?

The Blurgeois Site Council, lol. Good one. I second!! Can we have a vote??

Or the Blurgeois Pedagogues, as not to confuse things with the Site Council Site Council.

To those unsure of the idea - clarification is offered:

The main thread will be for posting images as in all of the 30-day type projects - to view, to comment upon when time permits, to enjoy. And if you really want feedback, this is the place to get it - side projects usually have a lot more feedback than challenges, and with a topic like un-sharp, I think feedback is key to determining what works not just for you, but for others as well.

The secondary thread, which you can follow or not, will be more of a discussion/learning thread, using images from the first thread. It's a great way to get free photography "lessons" and mentorship.

In my book, it's all good. And I hereby offer my permission to use any of my images (should I get to take any!) as what NOT to do if that's the case. :-)

Is it too late to join and fall terribly short of the 31 days?

It seems like anyone who submits an intentionally blurry photo during August will be participating. Does there have to be a limit?

I suggest we call "the group" either the Screening Committee or the Fuzzy Thinkers.

Here are my thoughts:
Jorge's (De Sousa) proposal for an axullary thread
for Goodman's critics picking "best pictures" has some proponents as well as contrary response.
His concept, I read - is to adapt & expand the Posthumous Ribbons of the Week thread (also his idea) to this side challenge. I would expect it to be similar, but with more than one person designated to contribute.

The "Posthumous" thread - (Don's showcase & analysis of overlooked and under rated) allows & encourages contributions. As should this one. This current incarnation may appear to be more formal and seemingly less democratic, but I doubt it - no one could be in favor of that or would want to read it. I suggest to expand the proposed thread if it opens. Though it already appears to be tainted to some. Never the less it is a solid proposal - an idea that a tandum thread would keep the foto posting thread clean appeals to me. A seperate dialogue for verbal garbage like in this thread; tutorial foto redoux; and yes also room for some reposts w/ thoughtful crit, evaluation and discussion.

Gotta say that I'm excited about this one and I do hope all that feel so inclined will participate (and yes, that includes you, Elvis!). I probably won't be able to participate much with actual photos taken in August, but I'll give it a shot (as long as y'all don't mind everything in beige...). Mostly, though, I simply look forward to seeing some gorgeous and intriguing photography!

I will only agree to membership of this little selection committee if its title is as completely 'elitist'-sounding as humanly possible. Elitism is good: some stuff just is better than other stuff.

Seriously, I doubt I'll have the time to participate properly. But I'm willing to give it a go.

Ed's Esoteric Elitist Eschewers?

:-)
07/31/2007 02:49:18 AM · #270
What if anyone contributing photos can bring a photo to the selection committee thread? Maybe simply saying why they thought a photo worked particularly well. Then Ed's Esoteric Elitist Eschewers can discuss if they want, as well as bring light to entries they want to discuss. This way it includes more opportunities to see what people enjoy. just a thought.

No doubt about it, i'm not sure how people can be part of this site without understanding that.
Even Ed's work for example, some of it just is better than the rest of it.
Same goes for me, and everybody for that matter.

(ok none of Ed's work is really that bad, it was a bad example but you get the point)

It's July 31 here in Australia - hope I'm not too late to join in.

I've REALLY dragged my feet about this because I'm a sharpness whore - I LOVE IT - can't get enough of it (no REALLY I can't, unless EVERYTHING in the image is sharp I'm crushed!)

So I'm hoping to cure myself in the month of August by signing up to be a part of the opposition - I hope I don't offer too little blur - it will be HUGE leap for me to come to the other side - GRIN!
