Ansel Adams to the max, except marginal DOF into the distance.

Dead Snag (BK's shot)

Ditto if it had more DOF and a shade more contrast perhaps.

Would work very well in the Adams challenge if the tonal range were more fully expressed.

I've been working hard on improving my digital black and white and I think i've come a long way. I also shoot black and white 120 sometimes.
Here are my favorites:

love the b&w in this thread. some are just incredible. these are some of mine.

i find it hard to desaturate something now that i have the option of leaving it color. instead of before where i knew i was taking pictures for b&w film.

edit:how did that color sneak in there??

I would have to agree. All I have to do on this one is to revert to true black and white and bumb up the contrast a bit. Secret to this Image, use RAW.

This is about as good as I've gotten a b&w. I'll have a chance to try it again since my hard drive died the morning I was going to back up everything. Argh!

But comparing it to the original color shot gives me ideas to turn other shots into b&w I hadn't thought of before.

And, might I add, that last shot of the eagles is simply incredible.

Hmmm. I like these:

. . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . .

. . . . . . . . . .

And I sure love all of yours. I think black and white really pares a photo down so that communication must be clear. Groovy stuff!
