Taken out in a field in color, then used the hue colorize to change it to a sepia tone. I know the horizon is to centered but I think the airplane and the kids have a good leading lines to it plus is in the rule of thirds area. No cropping done to the picture. I really like it.

Hey Soni:

I have been feeling uninspired lately. I came across this image and realized or remembered why I love photography. This is a great shot. Such simplicity, but such a great story...thanks for this

Very retro. I really like the post production treatment of it in your print Flight 2 giving it: a grainy and slightly out of focus quality, a golden glow, and a sort of undefinable edge. It's an instant classic.

You got robbed! I think this was the best picture entered. If not for the modern looking airplane, the picture has a Wright brothers feel to it. It almost looks like it was taken 100 years ago at Kitty Hawk North Carolina. And as normal, some jerk with no taste and/or no talent gave you a two. There's no way a photo of this quality rates a two or a three or a four...

Congrats Sonja - should have been a blue IMO, but I guess you can't complain about a red:-) My only (very) slight criticism would be that it's just a touch twee for me - a little sentimental? But that would only be enough to cost you a tenth of a point. Beautiful work.

Just stopped and had to stare! this IMO is the BEST photo in the challenge--
Its very emotive, and captures the Spirit of a young mind--

The framing, tones, and subject are all flawless-- I hope this gets offered as a print, its been awhile since Ive seen this high quality on DPC, its just great, and gonna be in my Favorites list-- 10+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Mais oui! Lovely! The spatial emptiness in this photo is absolutely gorgeous.

Boy and toy could be positioned a tad further to the left - to assign a more generous flight path for the plane and to emphasize a classic composition.
I'd consider rotating the image very slightly to level the horizon line...
Ideally, perhaps, the shadow side of the boy could do with more brightness (fill flash?). Yet overall, it is especially the meticulously variable lighting, which is so astounding.

The subtlety of the hue chosen for the image documents fine taste, IMHO.

[It is a 7 on my personal scale (of all I know). I am rating it at 10 in the context of DPC.]

Very nice photo. This is one of my favorites. I like how you have gone with the sepia here. The only thing I'd do different is crop a little more off the left side of the picture during the post process or pan the camera left while you were shooting. Just a minor detail I still think this is a great shot.

I think this will do well. Nice tones - gives it a wistful quality. I think I might crop some of the space behind the 'pilot' out.

Great subject and surroundings. The B&W is nice, but there is little much green in it in my opinion. I'd have tweaked it to make the tone a little "browner".

This is such a great photo. This would probably when in "Nostalgia". Love the hue that you choose. It gives a great sense of the "Past" and the feeling of childhood. The clothes he wearing really helps with the contrast and makes him pop out of the picture. Same for the plane. The depth of field also helps with this.

This would make for a great postcard or greeting card. Absolutely beautiful.

A Spinmaster Air Hog remote controlled plane! (I have one, too!) Nice shot! I like the toning here. Even though these are very colorful planes, this looks like a nice, oldtime photo.

Different from the run-of-the-mill birds and aeroplanes that were to be expected, but you haven't compromised despite the great idea: excellent composition, location, and technical work. manges to create an aspirational feel - somehow it looks like an old-fashioned kid out playing, a kid who never heard of Flight Simulator. My top of this challenge.

Great shot, it has a real 'innocence' about it. Love the relationship between the boy and the plane, his eyes (actually moreso the angle of his head) and hand lead the view in an almost 'circular' fashion back to the plane. This works really well in sepia, adds to the mood of the photo and the freedom and innocence of a bygone era. I shall watch this one with interest come the end of the challenge, but I doubt I'll have to get off the front page to find it. Good Luck, Todd. 10

The simplicity of this picture is very good. I like that it is a little soft and the choice of sepia. The sky and the grass and the little boy up to his knees in it, and his focused concentration. All excellent. (sonifo?)

Nice shot, very well exposed. Great sky. One small quibble... I'd have lowered or raised the shot so the horizon did't cut across his torso. I also think a tighter crop would have worked better. 8

Wow, I feel like I've been transported back in time! This is just wonderful. I love the textures in both the field and the sky which make the smooth lines of the airplane and the boy really stand out. I also like that the moment you captured this shot, the plane was right in front of the one real break in the clouds, brightening it up and almost giving the impression that it's what parted the sky. Good luck with the challenge.
