Absolutely stunning! Perfect in all regards! Congratulations on the blue ribbon.

I am beginning to wonder...who keeps giving these winning photos one's, two's and three's? Whose the person with such selective taste out there? I'd love to hear why (s)he would give this a one, two or three. But especially the one. The shot is well focused, amazingly timed and highly colorful while not distractingly so. So why give it a low score?

Congratulations!! I am so glad this wonderful photo won the blue ribbon.
It really deserved to win!! I would have been very disappointed if it had
not won.

We only have Ruby throated hummingbirds here. I wish I could see one of these.

I gave you a 10.

On this one, I'm just in awe. That's an amazing split-second catch you made, with only the faint blurring on the wings....

Where was this shot? It looks so staged? Especially with the all tan background and lighting. 7- only because it does look so staged. This is high because I very seldom give 10's.

Wonderful picture. Can't tell if it is a female Allen's Hummingbird or a female Rufous Hummingbird. We Only get Ruby throats on the east coast.

Nice catch. Shutter speed 1/50000th? (C: Just barely a motion blur there. Very crisp besides that. ALmost looks like he has no wings at all, the way they blend in. Great shot

Great details in the feathers of the hummingbird. Good focusing really helps show us the beautiful colors and contrast in the feathers. The incredible depth of field really makes the hummingbird stand out from the background. Beautiful shot.

Very detailed, sharp as heck shot! (Envyous!!!) Must be a very fast camera, I've never gotten the wings to come so close to being stopped. Great pose. Lovely color! I hope you win, you're MY choice! 10 Rob the Swash

Excellent shot, wonderfully captured and very difficult to get with such a high amount of detail. I've tried shooting these myself and gave up immediately as they were so darned fast! Anyway, because of the difficulty, you have done a sterling job in getting a decent composition, great DOF, and exposure. Well done!

OMG, this is spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never seen a hummingbird shot like this, it's amazing. The background is awesome as well. 9. If the bird was turned toward the camera slightly so you could see the wings a little more it would be a SOLID 10. Good job!

Great shot, but the background is a bit distracting

09/30/2003 03:29:53 AM
Wow, perfectly frozen in the air, and so sharp. How many shots did you need to get this beauty? The background is nicely blurred through the shallow DOF, although it competes with your main subject a little. Also I would have left a little bit more space around the bird, especially at the front in the direction it is looking. The crop is a little on the tight side.
