I hang on to almost all my shots, even the ones i screwed up and go back and look at them from time to time. AS a learning process and a reminder of the fun of the moment, because like you said, even if you miss it it was still exciting.

And it's still a LOT more than most of us get to see - so please do share them. Those are pretty cool shots!

Totally. I've vented my frustrations in numerous threads for a couple of previous shots (Best of 07 in partic). I got a really nice warning e-mail from one of the SC yesterday for a pointed message...basically saying that heated and topical debate is healthy but there is a line. You weren't anywhere near that line imho. I don't know if this will help you at all but I was really quite surprised at the eventual ribboners, and my 'predictive' track record has been pretty good (e.g. when I sort challenge by my vote the ribbons are often in the top 5-10) - but not this time. Had I not scored well myself I probably would have been a bit frustrated in truth.

This was always going to be an Eye Candy event too...mustn't forget that (or rather imho!). I think most people that tried to do something a bit more edgy or interpretative will have especially suffered in this challenge because of the relative contrast between 'oooh pretty' and moody. I'm starting to learn that there are certain challenges geared towards interpretative and others towards eye candy and to decide how arty I want to be as a function of it.

Oh, and I'd still investigate the <4s on the ribbon images just to make sure they are genuine dislikes and not blatant trolling. I can't believe that anyone would rate Tim's red cardinal a 1. Even if you don't like red cardinals there's no way that is a bad photograph. Average at worst with no appeal but never bad. In fact very good because of the consensus and high scores/comments from excellent photographers. Something is wrong when people can get away with that kind of behaviour on a site like this. But I don't want to start a whole new troll thread again.

I agree, but the last time that I mentioned 1's and 2's, and the word 'trolls' in the same sentence regarding someone else's photo that I thought was fantastic I really got hammered.
