Actually it starts with me even following the scores threads in the first place. I follow the scores threads only when I feel that my enty is competitive and I want a hint at how it will finish. Then, of course, I usually post my score.

What you said about regressing to the mean makes sense. Too much sense. You do this way too much ;)

Now...I am wondering if you have a shot in this challenge. Is it doing well? Are you and I going to have a replay of the Wildlife challenge?

Too bad Pterodactyls are extinct. I would have loved to see a close up of one nipping at your macro lens. :P

Is that last stat new? I don't remember seeing it before. Seems I liked more entries than not, huh?

You certainly left me a nice comment (as well as bumped your vote on mine).

Sounds like an exciting challenge that's right up my alley.

Langdon added that statistic almost 7 hours ago. That's like months in internet time! My average score given was over 6.4, but I still have some bumping to do.

Mine's the photo of the bird with the beak, wings, and feathers, in case you needed help with the bumping.

Since you so obviously copied MY entry, judging from that description, you probably won't like the direction of the bump! ;-P

No, that pain is not going to be mine this challenge, I'm only sitting 6.7 which is way out of the running in this challenge.

Someone, however, will feel the bite of a 7.3+ 4th place. I'm calling it now and it hurts. It hurts baaaaddd... :P

Perhaps for you it would. I would probably throw a freakin' party and call CNN and see if I could get interviewed by Regis or something. I have a one just-barely-7+ without even a top ten, and it's still freakin' awesome!

But some of us operate in completely other universes. :-)

Yep, I'm with you, Deb. These high-fliers and their complaints about superhuman scores ...

That said, Doc, maybe I'll win an "I beat sneezy" award for this entry.

.. and I thought the 'ouch' was that I was proud of my 6.X! :-)

So far, so good. :)

I still wonder whether Jaime knows he got byes into the final, or even whether there's an ongoing bracket!

Don't worry. I know human nature (being one). Even if 7.35 was your top score ever, there would be that twinge of disbelief that it didn't ribbon and you didn't wind up on the front page. Humans are famous for always wanting more. ;)

I do feel that way when it's something where I think I have a shot at winning, like Ultimate Frisbee. But to me, ribbons here are like winning the lottery; I don't ever consider myself seriously in the running. Maybe eventually, if I've won lots of ribbons and a 6.5 score is a low-scoring image for me, my sights will be higher. But not for now.

Did you see my thread about why 4th place rocked in the Rivers challenge? Having it convert to a ribbon certainly added a little extra fun, but there wasn't the slightest, tiniest bit of regret when it was 4th.

I know that's right. My first 7+ was a 7.22 in Environmental Portrait, I was so sure I was going to win my first ribbon, and a blue at that. I gave the DPC link to friends and family so they could see it at roll over.

I finished 5th. Trust me, it still hurts! ;-)

Reminds me of the old saying, "Nothing is more prone to failure than anything preceded by 'Watch this!'"

Still flying steady at 6.8, a PB by 1.3! Down from just over 7, but level for 24 hours. This should be my first top 50% entry.

Look at all the comments! Does anyone have any idea of the most comments or a comments per # votes? Almost 15% of voters have commented - mostly +

Glad to see you joined up as a full member. I has serious lens envy when I saw you walking around with the 500mm F4L. Talk about a lens for photographing birds, geez.
