Why not just say half the entries submitted were nominated? That way when the few that didn't get nominated (like me, dammit) they won't feel left out. Just kidding! Ok, maybe just half kidding. Actually more like 47.5%, give or take a hundredth of a point. |
LOL--well, as hard as downselecting is for me in some challenges, I do need to point out that 12 nominations out of 384 entries (!) comes to (where is that calculator, anyway?) 3.13%. Not too shabby if you ask me. And nowhere near half, I gotta say... :-)
I just call 'em the way I see them.
I have seen your work--a Lumie is certainly in your future, no doubt. A FIVE time BLUE Ribbon Winner, FOUR Time Red ribbon winner actually covets the new Lumie. How cool is THAT :-)

Chromeydome thank you, with so many great shots to choose from to be considered as one of the nominees is indeed an honor. |

I'm very much honored to have been mention by Posthumous and De Sousa. Also thanks to the chromeydome, for being picked as a nominee. Thank you! |

woohoo, my second yellow hand! and probably harder to collect than my 2 ribbons - am well chuffed. Don, I may have to retitle it to Gothic phantasm after your comment. And, a 'fantastic image' comment from Jorge, what more could a guy ask for?
Thanks!

I was informed that I was slacking in the posting of my "Too Too" winners. I will let you all guess who it was that informed me. ;)

A couple of my favorites in the Free Study that haven't ranked high and haven't seen in this thread either:
by heavyj
This is an image with a message: to me it's about self improvement, evolution, the desire to reach as high as you can. The fact that it's not a person shows to me that this desire is universal. Like all strong messages it is transmitted with minimal clutter: nothing more than the desire and the highest branch. And then the pose is fantastic: when you have reached the highest branch, are you satisfied you've made it there, or somewhere inside you wish there was more to climb? I think the image has both.

There's something really close and personal about this image, seems to capture both the kids and their (very different!) personalities as well as something of the external moment as it reflects in the two of them. The processing gives it a classic, cinema look that works very well with the composition.

Yes, it's an image and yes, it titled "Absence of sound", but doesn't it look to you like sound is coming out somehow and it's there? There are some halos around the image, as other people have noticed, but I feel they work and enhance the dynamism of the image. And then look at the composition: the strong contrast zig-zag of the arm leads the eye through the image, to the hand which illustrates the concept in the title, and finally to the eyes. Well done!

Thanks for the notice and the great comment! I was actually quite pleasantly surprised at how well this was received, especially in the context of a large Free Study.
I've posted a somewhat different flower shot which I was considering in the Outtakes thread. |

I didn't vote in this past free study but now I wish I did. It looks like one of the best free studies in quite some time judging by the images posted here.

Wow, kidding or not, this is a Freudian slip if I ever saw one.
This was an interesting thread until I finally saw the teeth from the tiger.
Not watching this thread any more.
