Thanks Deb!

I have to say, I was a bit disappointed with the final score, I had been at 5.87 last time I looked on Saturday (around lunchtime) and it really took a dive by this morning. I totally struggled with what to enter for May, but getting a mention from you has really brightened my day. Thanks!

ok, i'm finally getting around to male portrait (i didn't vote on female portrait) part of the problem is that my favourite image of the challenge was DQed, and i've been debating what to do. i've decided pah, he wasn't trying to cheat, so - well, it's cutout again. he really seems to have come into his own photographically of late.

cutout cutout's new style of working is really resonating with me greatly. the colours and tones in this one are simply gorgeous - rich and jewel-like. the awareness and use of negative space are superb, with the emptiness and subject balancing each other in perfect unevenness. the graininess works very well too, and the repetition of the man's profile, positive and negative, left and right, is wonderful.

Adian00 this image just grabbed me. the strong flash light works in this context, adding a harshness and unblinking gaze to the picture. the face of the man, with the makeup and tears, goes against society's traditional idea of a 'man', yet is obviously male. the composition works extremely well indeed, with the conjoining angles energising the whole piece. a highly charged and emotional shot.

jrmyrnsm an intellectually fascinating shot, well composed and exposed. i think i do wish the tones were a little richer. what i do love is the perversity (for those who confuse perverse with pervert: perversity = contrariness: deliberate and stubborn unruliness and resistance to guidance or discipline) of covering the eyes in a portrait. that, plus the implications of pure/impure are very interesting. keeping pure from corrupting influences, or keeping the subject's corruption from escaping. nicely done.

Cheers Don, this has meant more to me than a DPC ribbon ever would. Truly honoured and thrilled.

You are already the First/Only Person To Covet It. FOPTC (aw, man, do I gotta create a ribbon for that, too?) :-)

Cheers!

As usual these were handed out during voting.

Masks

By mattforbes

I was probably inclined to vote this one high just because the mask in the photo seem to belong in the photograph unlike so many others.

By njsabs2323

Hard not to vote this one high. It's incredibly well done. The craftmanship is impeccable. I guess I was the only one who commented on the eyes looking like that of a doll but I thought they worked fantastic for this subject/challenge.

By metatate

I believe Tate is the first multi-YankO winner for what that's worth. Note to self: Figure out Tate's style and be more critical next time. :P

Fantastic work with not only contrasts and colours but detail and lighting. Simply superb work.

The long exposure and scattered image really gives me the feel of classic wolf transformations. Extremely well done and creative.

Just something about this image is completely unbelievable. The simplicity and complexity of this image I feel works out wonderfully on several layers.

Internet went out last night, so I'm going to make a rare exception and give out two ribbons post-challenge. You'll just have to trust me that I already had these picked out. Actually, you don't have to trust me, but you do have to bear with me.
