That eliminates most of us, I would guess. Those of us in cities, anyway.

I dont hang out to dry I use a tumble dryer. A) I live in the land of the weak sun (UK), B) Clothes tend to be washed during the evenings and C) Tumble drying and hanging straight up means NO ironing - haven't ironed anything for years and no I don't look all creased all the time!

How about an event contest, where we would have to try to capture the mood of the event through:
1. Portraits (Candid)
2. Colour/Tone (Up to you colour or B&W)
3. Prespective
etc.

"Building (s). Shoot any building (s) and use light, composition and your photographic technique to make it an appealing photograph."

Anyone into this idea? It's certainly very broad, may seem boring, but the point would be to see how people can make buildings interesting through different techniques.

Guess what I want... "SUNSETS" As many colors as you can capture....

hmmm... what would be a good follow up for garbage...

Cleaning Supplies
Mops
Brooms
Soap
Air Fresheners
Disinfectants
Spot Removers
Vacuum Cleaners
Garden Hoses
Bath Tubs
Shower Stalls

This would be a great way to follow up the garbage challenge...

Some people would be at a great advantage with a sunset challenge. Where I live spectacular sunsets are rare.. problem with sunsets are that people just take a picture because the sky looks good but the rest of the picture isn't really appealing. It upsets me how people look at a sunset picture with much less going on in the rest of the pic and it gets AMAZING reviews.. all because the sky is amazing with nothing to contribute to the rest of the image.

I can submit a picture of a sunset that's just a snapshot of a real nice sky.... show me a spectacular scene where the foreground is as amazing as the sky and I'll be impressed.

I'm not really a fan of sunset pics. We have spectacular sunsets here in Colorado, but to me, a sunset is one of those things that need to be *experienced* and seen with your eyes rather than behind a lens. They lose something when you try to capture them on film. (or pixels)

Sunsets...hmmm...I'm sort of a sunset sucker, although I agree with the fact that it can become a little plain.

Does this one work for you? Liberty Island Sunset

How'bout my "building (s)" idea?...not getting much traction, then again, I live in New York, in the midst of the concrete jungle!

Hence the challenge.

Been a while since I've been around so I thought I'd drop my 2 cents worth. However there have been so many great ideas!

Sand "castles" (can use beach sand, dirt, etc.)- both fun to make and photograph
Easter eggs (color dyed eggs)
Museums (I think we all have them, photograph your favorite 'spot/item')
Gelatin (I'm scared of the possiblities ;P)
Bridges
Grocery store/markets - kind of like a secruity camera shot =0

I like the thought of taking pics of things we take as boring and mundane and comparing it to pics from another place, country, etc. because we might find something interesting about theirs' and like wise.

Next week, we will get to see an international buffet of garbage. I hope to learn something from that :)

Here are a couple of simple ones I'd like to see some time...

~ Triangles ~ Take a photograph that uses the geometric shape of a triangle in any form or color. The triangle can be (but isn't required to be) a single object (roof peak) or separate objects (the constellation 'Summer Triangle')... Your photo must be taken between (etc)...

~ Rule of Thirds ~ Take a photograph that has a strong use of the 'Rule of Thirds'. This (link to tutorial) may help you if you are unsure of the concept... Your photo must be (etc)...

~ 8 Year Old Black Labs named Paco ~ Take a photograph of any 8 year old black labrador retriever named Paco... Your photo must (etc)...

I think the Thirds one would be a very good complement to the tutorial John wrote... It's one thing to read the tut, but I think backing it up with a practical might be nice... So far I've learned the most from the challenges that ask me to apply a specific compositional technique (ie 'negative space')... The Paco challenge would be good because it would keep down the number of entries so dialup voters would get a break and I'd have a pretty good shot at the top 50 :)

How about a challenge using snow AND street hockey. That would help us Canadians get a look in :-)

I think a clothing challenge would be interesting. the point of the image would be to exaggerate, emphasize, or isolate a particular piece of clothing/accessory.

PS. The liberty island sunset picture is nice because there's something going on in the foreground. Nice silhouette. Sunsets for the sake of sunsets are just bad.... a pretty sky is nice but if there's nothing else going on...

As someone who is guilty of entering a sunset picture in the 'corner of
the world' challenge. I can relate to this.

But it is hard to take an interesting sunset picture - because they
look fantastic - but often it is hard to convert that to film - there
are a few wonderful attempts, and lots of hey the sky's orange with a
big red ball in the middle. I think I would go insane voting on an
entire challenge of sunsets.

Happy to hear comments on if you thought mine was 'interesting' or not -
I paid all of those people a lot of money to add some interest...

I have found the definitive topic. "Air" The directions could be something like: "good luck...."

That would be exciting.

Imagine voting on that.

Some of these ideas are great. The little light bulb in my head is shining bright with all of your ideas. Here are a mine.

Warmth- Us in the northern hemisphere are approaching winter and in the southern hemisphere summer. Your picture makes you feel warm all over. From a bright sunny day to bonfire.

Candlelight- Your image can only be iluminated by a candle. How many candles? I don't know. The candle doesn't have to be in the shot but we'd have to hope not too many people cheat.

Flight- Planes, birds, helicopters or anything that can take flight.

Wind- show the effects of wind or sense of movement from wind.

Money- The lack of or not. You decide. Show the ups and downs of having it or not.

Forgive me if I repeated anyones ideas.
