Nice one! Can we strike the last sentence from this one? I think the photos that use the rust to add to the photo will score the best anyway. I just dread the comments if that sentence is there... what if the rust adds to the BACKGROUND? ;-)

hmm ideas huh? :)

Skin - close up of what ever type of texture you'd have on your skin ...

Ice - or ice cubes ... have an image that ice or icecubes would be the main subject ...

Your favorite past time - it would probably be set up to look more like a snapshot - but it's all about fun here ... isn't it?

Collections - or hobbies ... if you collect something - trading cards, dolls, etc. Set it up in a way to photograph it as if you were going to be presented in a magazine or something .. if you dont collect anything - set up something that you have alot of ... could be endless possibilities :)

As a variant on the song titles idea...
how about BOOK TITLES or FAMOUS QUOTATIONS. Quotes could be limited by topic, language, or source (e.g. Shakespeare, the Bible, the movies).

I always wanted a picture of Mick Jagger trying to hit on Kate Moss
and getting rejected by her.

Prizes for guessing the quotation/title.

Nice idea, but unlike FnV and Pencil, it is hard to BUY rust, it might limit who can enter.

This thread has turned into what the section of the forums was meant to be... howsabout we start new threads for each new idea, if we like them...
09/24/2002 11:27:04 AM · #57
Ultimately, a single thread for each idea would be the way to go. Generally, what happens is that one idea spawns another and they all get rustled into the same thread. :)

No takers huh ? So it would be for the proverb:

A Rolling Stone gathers no moss...

<lol> Gordon tried to think all day what it could be. Very good.

Gordon,
I "got it" OK, but didn't get to see it until now. Of course, you might have meant one of his biggest hits, "I can't get no..."

I think that whatever comes up next, we need to have the challenge spelled out in such a way that there could be no misinterpretion by the voter or the photographer...

Absolutely not. why take the fun out of it for people ?

This is a photography challenge - there should be plenty of scope
for interpretation and art. If it is easily pinned down, then
there is no room for artistic scope.

Mind you, it seems a lot of the voters don't like that messy arty
nonsense.

I can't believe that no one has told me that I haven't met the challenge this week... I was expecting a ton of that... lol

I'd like to see this tried out! I've always wanted to take a picture of pigs flying . . . I bet it would place.

Or did I just get suckered by Mr. Setzler?

Or we could pick a number and take a picture of that

I suggest '3' for the first one.

I suggest some one word challenges without further explanations . For instance:

horse
home
time
happiness
tragedy
technology
knowledge

shadows - the one I'd like to see most
buildings
motion - not frozen in time, the picture must show some sort of motion blur
nature
color - any picture in which the colors present are of primary importance to the photo

How about "Household names" ? Brand names that can be found virtually everywhere or images which represent world-famous people ??
10/01/2002 03:06:41 AM · #73
how bout a topic of 'break time'... you could photo graph people, things or animals sleeping or in a state of rest

Clothes hanging out to dry

Everyone has to wash and dry their clothes. You might end up with a variety of colors, cultures, kind of clothes etc etc. In old Medditeranian cities they hang them out of the window, elsewhere on lines between buildings, lines between poles, over the balcony.
Do you photograph the towel wash, the underwear wash or the pants wash?
Concerning cities it is a challenge to get a great angle (especially with high buildings) and to catch street culture.
What can people do with shadows, blur of wind, freezing the effects of wind.

I would not include machine drying.
