I think we've had enough with the more complicated subjects for a while. It will be nice to have some more simple ones like the macro challenge :P

I knew what you meant and was just being a little obnoxious, while admitting some of my photo-compositional limitations.
I mostly agree with you, and particularly noticed an entry in the Macro challenge which matches your idea very well. I'd probably give "extra points to photos which are "naturally" abstract. I just might be using (legal) PS manipulations anyway since I'm so often lazy...

How about restricting the titles to one source -- The Beatles.

I think that's a terrific idea - possibilities are endless ... yellow submarines, octopuses gardens, guitars softly weeping, etc. People can be advised to look up titles at amazon.com or whatever.

We're expecting highs in the 40s so I'm hoping for topics I can do indoors. I know that we dont all live in the same place, but most of us seem to be in the northern hemisphere so...

After getting a lot of "what IS that" comments this week, I thought we might try an abstract challenge. I thought that macro was a good opportunity for ppl to do abstract pics, but there aren't all that many. Maybe if we force everyone to think about abstract, shoot it, and vote on it then just a few more folks might appreciate it more.

Its finally cool enough to go outside during the day and you want to
spend the next 6 months inside !? It was only about 80F today - finally
not too obnoxious...

More outdoor challenges please! :)[/i]

80s... I took an outdoor shot today and my hands were numb in 5 minutes :( *Curses the 17°F windchill*

Gordon,
It's running in the 50s - 70s in the Bay Area. I thought you were going to be paroled out of Texas...

I Definately have to agree with this suggestion. A challenge based on abstract would be great! The degree of abstract is still up to the person shooting the picture. Personaly I love abstract, artistic shots. They're different from the norm, and I think they're great to look at, and a challenge all about abstract photography (without the use of photoshop) would be both challenging, and probably something new for most people. I would love to see this one pop up as the challenge some time :)

I like the abstract challenge. It is out of the ordinary for what most of us usually shoot. It will force us to think outside the box - to be really creative.

primary colors - photos must contain at least two colors from the primary group (red, blue, yellow)

complimentary colors - photos must contain at least two colors from the complimentary group (green, orange, purple)

colors combo - any combo you want but all photos must contain at least one color from each group (ie, one from primary, one from complimentary...two from primary, one from complimentary...one primary, two complimentary...)

emphasis could be placed on balance/composition/lighting and not just on getting x number of colors in...

In the spirit of the 'technically challenged' subchallenge, how about
a 'shoot in 640x480 mode' challenge. No cropping, no additional pixels.

We could have a 'portrait framing' challenge. Shoot anything you like
as long as the result is 480 pixels wide and 640 high.

A repetition challenge - shoot patterns

Cliche sounds good to me, also. Let's see if the attitude that they "require no effort" really is true :-)

I Like the "Cliche" idea : ): ) : )

DUDE! I am not gonna read all of this thread so excuse any repeats.

Scapes - I read that some ppl would like sunsets so why not do some sort of challenge that would allow for seascapes, skyscapes, cityscapes, and landscapes.

Color - I'm always drawn to photos with lots of strong colors. This should be pretty wide open to any subject as long as they use color as an important element of the photo.

Silhouettes - there was talk about this when we did the shadow challenge so why wasn't it ever done?

Liquid - I guess you could just leave it at that, but I'd expect to see lots of water pictures.

Cliche - for all these people complaining about the kids, flowers, and pets. Let's just see how good they are at them. Just pick a common photography subject and take the best photo you can.
