Protective Motherby TomNTexasComment: Wonderful catch! Unfortunately, it strecthes the challenge a bit far... I can deal with the childhood of the deer, but then you are showing the "child"... Congrads on a great shot anyway :) |

...by prodigal havocComment: A fine job on the lighter range of grey, but the darker range is largely missing... Very nice concept/execution... |

Hopeful Thoughtsby fsieradzkiComment: Nice sentiment :) I share the hope... As per the shot, I think lighting was a problem here... The top of the paper is washed out and the glare on the word "we" was very distracting... If it had been me, I might have considered the position of the pencil again... While the 'rule' of thirds is actually only a 'guideline', I feel it could have helped here if the point of the pencil was moved to the lower right hand "third" mark... |

Find the Pencilby #1 Bronco FanComment: Nice lighting and I like the texture on the rug... However, the pencil looks like it was addedd to make the picture of the jersey fit the challenge... This isn't so much a photo of a pencil with a jersey in it as it is a photo of a jersey with a pencil in it... I'm considering giving you a sympathy point since the Broncos looked so bad last night against the 49ers and this might be the highpoint of your season... PS ~ My wife (a Bronco fan) says the old uniform was much better... |

Poo Mooby MagsCoyoteComment: It looks like your focus was on the white (hat?) thing on the right hand side... There is alot of things here that I'm not sure if you wanted in the shot... For instance, did you mean to include the smoke detector in the upper right? or the chair, the speaker, etc? Perhaps you could have made the subject clearer if you put a 'background' behind your subject... Something as simple as a piece of construction paper, propped up behind the pencils could have improved the shot greatly... Always try to remember that the background is there... It was one of the hardest lessons for me... |

Fire Lane: a pencil of a ho[r]seby antonabayaComment: After looking through the dictionary, I understand what you were shooting for... I have to congradulate you on an original, different perspective... However, I don't care much for the execution... There were so many things competing for attention that I had a hard time figuring out what you were shooting for... I spent a long time trying to figure out what the sign had to do with a pencil, since that seemed to be the dominant aspect... |

Back to The Basicsby evilbunneeComment: I like the use of BW here, and the deapth of field works for me too... However, whatever that is on the right hand side of the shot, it killed the shot for me...I think this would have been a VERY strong shot without the whatever it is... But it dominates my attention everytime I revisit this shot... I'd love to see a reshoot without it :) |

Frame itby zacowacoComment: I like the concept of "framing" and think it would be a good topic for a future challenge... However, I think your execution had a few problems... If there was anyway to not have your hand holding the frame, it would have helped... Also the shadow on the ground hurt a bit too... A closer crop where we don't see much 'outside' the frame may have worked better... |

Third Riseby Ricky CleaveComment: This is a shot that I think is really nice, but for the life of me I can't see the connection to the challenge... I will revisit this later in the week and see if I can figure it out. If you would like to PM me and help me see what I'm missing, I'd be glad to listen... ~ myqyl ~ |

6 Daysby amonteforteComment: The only reason this shot didn't get a ribbon is that there is a group of people that REALLY don't like children (or at least not photos of them)... Not sure why that is... |
