If you try a curves layer set to multiply masked to only effect the clouds. You will get more details. Although I think the white sky adds to the bleakness. :)

good high contrast, it still has the details in the brights. it seems the tattoo bleeds of her hands inverts and runs down the cloth. :)

I love the line and similarities that you saw, and we have the same lens :)
A little tip to get some detail back in the building at least is to make a curve layer adjustment and just press okay. Then set it to multiply and open the curve again and play with the tones in the top. You can then mask out the bottom and get some dark tones in the building.
With that said I like it how it is. :)

My eye jumps from the matching whites top and bottom to blacks top and bottom, left to right. Even the white splotch from the plywood window matches the door. You did show some dignity I think.

very genuine, the eyes tell a story of friends. I may try and look at the dodge and burn tutorial also, I think if the other girls eyes were abit brighter it would really shine.
