I attempted to "Pimp the Eyes", as idnic puts it, by using the Magic Wand and selecting a few strong lines, but my erasing was a little deficient, so the processing hid the eyes under the glasses inadvertently. (Needs a little more time to erase more from that layer.) Thanks for the comparison and contrast between photos... :)

Sorry,...my first attempt at screen capture of properties. I am attempting to save typing...like that'll happen! :}

Beautiful smiles, very happy image. The girl on the left seems a bit overexposed to me too.

great capture of emotion, i do feel that the girl on the left is a bit overexposed. You did a nice job on the eyes.

Very nice composition and you have really captured them well. This is a great portrait. I have ieExif so I can right click on your photo and view all the camera info...but that is a neat idea to do a screen capture of it.

Did you handhold this at 300mm 1/30? You have a steady hand if you did!

These are girls sure have a contagious smile. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and what an awesome and creative way to start off your b&w picture of the week.

Great image which tells a story in itself. Thanks for adding the camera info and sharing!

very genuine, the eyes tell a story of friends. I may try and look at the dodge and burn tutorial also, I think if the other girls eyes were abit brighter it would really shine.

Good capture of friendship and the familiarity that it breeds (in a good way); I think the comments so far sum it up nicely. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

The moment past, is what I learn from your photo. Age, antiquity, remembrances, nostalgia are all tools to use. Tomorrow is long gone. Last week does not exist.

I like the composition and story. Very good details for the contrasting coloring. Two things I'll say...first, portraits are my weekest part of photography so you can take my comments with a grain of salt. To me Ivory's face seems a little bit blown to me, I'm not sure what you used for lighting. I just looked at the blog and again to me, the original contained more detail in their faces. Second is not a comment but a request...could you put the camera info in when you submit, I think it will help with comments so that we can see your camera settings. And personally (this I'd like to request from everyone submitting portraits) I'd like to see a description of the lighting used, so people like myself who are trying to be better portrait photographers can learn the good tricks and proper lighting setups.
Nice start to this side challenge.

Nice set of images over on your blog and tbh think the pp let this version down a little. Gr8 story and idea for your first image and look forward to another 47 ;)

This is a really cool picture, because it shows the friendship coming through, even if they're smiling for the camera. As far as pimping the eyes, keep at it, it gets easier.

what a great capture - two close friends enjoying each other - i am not sure about the 'pimping of the eyes' here - the two seem so fresh and I think the more realistic eyes would really work out great here

I love the candid pose - it's just adorable! I agree with the comment about ivory being a little too over-exposed - but what ya gonna do with natural lighting? :) I know this is a B&W challenge but I took a peek at the one in color and I have to say that it looks pretty darn good.

Thanks so much! This is very helpful so far,...and...very encouraging! It truly is my desire to improve as a photographer and as a individual.

DPC comments have already improved me as a photographer...IMHO! Often "in-your-face" is what I need to improve, but tough & tender, like this thread, as a welcome oasis right now! Thanks again! Stan :)

Nice job, Stan! I love your tribute to diversity, and the obvious affection these 2 have for each other comes out loud and clear in your work. I think they will love it.

Shooting ebony and ivory in one photo is not all that easy to accomplish perfect exposure. I did a wedding once where the bride was ebony and the groom was ivory, and my camera tended to have trouble figuring out how to expose both faces just right. One tended to be too dark; one too light. I ended up doing alot of layering in my processing to get them evenly exposed. So my hats off to you for doing such a beautful job with your first photo! I look forward to more!

I took a look over at your blog and definitely like the b/w version much better than the color one. Good composition and the smile are great. I do have to agree with the others the "Ivory" is a bit washed out. I don't see that in your origainl image - so should not be too hard to fix up.

sweet image and creative idea. "Ivory" is a little too washed out in the face and seems to lose detail, but overall, a nice image.

There's this odd red lettering.... :-) (Just giving you a hard time.) Very warm and friendly (and great smiles)! That's my first reaction. I like the Ebony and Ivory approach and it's quite nifty that they're wearing dark and light colored clothing as well. You've exposed well for the ebony skin, but the ivory is just a touch (not much!) overexposed. I like the composition alot as well - adds to the friendship and warmth between the two.
