| What a shame, this is sooo well done! I really feel bad for you Sandy and understand just how you must feel. But, if anything has been learned here it would probably be that we should all be careful of what we put in our editing details because it just might DQ us. Don't let this stand in your way, you are a gifted photographer and I know you will continue to create amazing images! |

| So sorry about your DQ. That really hurts when it is just a silly mistake during validation. I wish it hadn't happened. But you have a lot of ribbons, and you have the knowledge that this deserved a ribbon, and you have a lot of FAVs, so it isn't all that bad. BTW, I wish I could capture that clarity in an overhead motion shot. |

Agree with MAK here, if its only down to an incorrect explanation then maybe you should ask for them to reconsider. |

You know - if this is DQ'd based on a mistake in your explanation, SC should maybe revisit this decision.
Say if you HAD done something illegal and had typed it up as if you didn't, they'd take your word for it? Hardly. Therefore, if you SAID you did something illegal, but didn't, I would hope they will take another look and ascertain what editing steps actually went into the image.

So sorry Sandy for the DQ! It was added to my favorites prior and will stay that way regardless of what SC says. Excellent photograph in all respects! You really have a gift for 'seeing' the right moment in your work, this is no exception.

Well. . .I've had to write this and re-write this. At first I was so angry and hurt and felt so righteously indignant because I know I edited this legally, and I couln't believe that a person could really lose a ribbon won fair and square when they hadn't violated any of the editing rules.
But after knowing why they thought I used illegal editing steps, I realized the whole thing was in fact my fault. Not that I did anything illegal in my editing. I didn't. But in my explanation of the steps I used, I said I did something I didn't actually do. I had already had to validate my zen photo just 2 days earlier, and I was so exhausted -- and excited and anxious -- so I hurried thru my explanation, and absent mindedly got the 2 photos mixed up and said I did a step that I had done in my zen photo that I really didn't do in this one. I think part of the reason I was so careless in my explanation was because this one was so easy. I wasn't worried in the LEAST about this one being validated and I was so tired. So I lost a ribbon that was won fair and square because I hurried thru my explanation and typed it wrong. :( But its not site council's fault. They were just going by what I said I did.
This is my untouched original. It hardly needed any editing except a little cropping, lightening and contrasting.

i was admiring your beautiful bird and refreshed the page .. when it had refreshed you beautiful bird had gone ..
sandy that really sucks ..
its so easy to forget when doing a basic edit that you cant do blending modes .. we do them without thinking a lot of the time .. a couple of times i've done a process and actually submitted it .. got it back up in photoshop later & see that i've done a blending mode other than normal without realising it ..
anyway .. like andrew says .. a fabulous shot is a fabulous shot no matter wot ..

Stink :( Sorry about the dq. A rule that's very easy to slip up on too, particularly if you're use to entering member challenges. Don't sweat it, as it still remains best in challenge regardless!
eta: Ack! Just read your notes. Double stink. Here's hoping you get it sorted out Sandy!

| Fantastic feathers. Looks almost like a flying skeleton in a way. Love it. I even like the comp even though free space is the opposite direction the bird is facing.. Sort of like it is springing forth from the free space into whatever lies beyond. |
