OK, first thing - this shot and the ribbon thats goes with it are dedicated to my other (& better) half Angela - who not only has to put up with me being away at weekends when shooting weddings throughout the summer, but as soon as I get a weekend off I go galavanting off to Richmond at 5am. Also the constant "come here and tell me which photo I should enter" comments, knowing that if it tanks she gets the blame for picking that one. love you babe & thanks for everything!
OK, if you have never been to Richmond Park on a misty autumnal morning then you owe it to yourself to do it. It really is like walking into another world. The deer roaring, the parakeets squawking, the browns, the greens, the light filtering through the mist, its surreal but beautiful, you really need to experience it to fully appreiciate it, something I tried to capture in this shot.
Processing wise I did my usual - tonemapping, overlay layer blurred. neatimaged, sharpened, vignette & border.
A new personal best for me!! Finally broken my PB that has stood for the last 5 years! Wonder how long before I berak it again?
Thanks to everyone who voted. FYI, up until 40 votes, I was on course to beat the site record as I was sitting there with a score of 8.6667 - its been a long week. :)

Mr_Pants - If there is enough interest in a processing tutorial then I'll throw something together. I am actually rather keen on the idea of working on a video tutorial much like Judi put together that time.
Get ya tutorial out.... go on then BOSH! sort it out Simmo I wanna know your secret..(editing only please)

Love the picture. Composition and framing are spot-on IMO. The lighting is beautifully captured and the processing carried out totally sympathetically towards the subject. Any thoughts on a tutorial for the PP, Mark?
Beautiful photograph! A minor after-the-fact quibble, but I think the frame is a bit heavy for it -- maybe half that width would do. But I have no quibbles at all with the photo itself. Congrats on your well-earned ribbon and new personal best.
OK Mark...I got the wrong photographer, but the place was right! My brother used to live in Richmond Hill. This is sensational. Congratulations on the blue
Congrat´s on the ribbon Mark, this shot sucks so badly I thought it was Alex´s, man that guy does NOT know how to take pretty pictures in Richmond Park!
congratulations mark on this amazing photograph and process .. and congratulation on a new pb .. i reckon this one will be pretty difficult to beat .. altho looking at the quality of your work it will only be a matter of time .. :)
i'm sure a lot of 'better halves' would have to put up with very similar behaviour from their dpc maniacs .. your story sounds very similar to mine .. well the "come here and tell me which photo I should enter" sort'v comment ..
i think to beat the site record would involve a most brilliant photograph, the correct challenge and a lot of luck .. those voters are a very fickle lot .. all the best .. you certainly have the talent, imagination and obsessive nature to do it !!!!!.. :)
A little competition for Alex's subject, I like it. Great shot. Come on, admit it, you guys have it stuffed and just sitting there waiting ... don't you?
I never voted this time but this is sure a top image
Wow Awesome Stunning and everything else
I have added this to my favorites
Congratulations on your Blue
I never voted, nor did I even look through the entries... but all I have to say is.... WOW!!! My girlfriend would love to have a print done of it. Definately going to my favourites.
Wow just incredible image bro. You captured exactly what you were going for here. I ditto what MAK said. Steak dinner for the Mrs... Congrats on the Ribb.
No Surprise here! Congratulations on another spectacular shot. What is surprising is that there were 4's in the voting. But I guess it didn't matter. Nice work!
I have never been to Richmond Park and I live less than an hours drive away but I have been inspired by these AMAZING photographs to visit. In fact, I think I'll make a plan to go this Saturday! Well done Mark (and Angela)! Awesome shots!
Stealing off to Richmond without telling the others, eh? :) Congrats.
tell me about it. The man drives for 2 hours to my back garden and doesnt call me. Naughty naughty. anyway congrats on a stunning image and ribbon. Told you you would get blue. Shame about joining the 8 club though. :-)
I'll be joining the 8+ club with my Best of 2007 image :-)

Congrats mark, told you this would blue ribbon! Thought it could and should have edged an 8+ though. Absolutelly magnificent! My favourite of any thing I've seen thus far in DPC!!!
Nice work...beautiful lighting and a great subject. Had it pegged for AlexSaberi but the tones looked a lot like a certain squirrel. Blue is your color!
No doubt this one is from Mr Simms :)
I'm not voting on this Free Study but still wish you good luck. This should do very well. This PP style of yours that you've mastered is very good looking.
Lovely shot. Great framing with the tree and wonderful crepuscular rays.
My only real nitpick is how bright the deer is when the sun is clearly striking the far side of him, and indeed under his chin the left side of his neck (the sunny side) appears darker than what should be the shady side - but that's a small price for such a lovely photo.
Did your heart go thuddity thud as you looked through the viewfinder? Mine would ;)Great image, although it looks more like the UK than a 'fall' country ;) One of my top picks :)
I'm sure this will do very well. I'm guessing this is either Alexsaberi or Simms at that park. The editing suggests Simms so that's my final answer. :P
