Location: Richmond Park, England

OK, first thing - this shot and the ribbon thats goes with it are dedicated to my other (& better) half Angela - who not only has to put up with me being away at weekends when shooting weddings throughout the summer, but as soon as I get a weekend off I go galavanting off to Richmond at 5am. Also the constant "come here and tell me which photo I should enter" comments, knowing that if it tanks she gets the blame for picking that one. love you babe & thanks for everything!

OK, if you have never been to Richmond Park on a misty autumnal morning then you owe it to yourself to do it. It really is like walking into another world. The deer roaring, the parakeets squawking, the browns, the greens, the light filtering through the mist, its surreal but beautiful, you really need to experience it to fully appreiciate it, something I tried to capture in this shot.

Processing wise I did my usual - tonemapping, overlay layer blurred. neatimaged, sharpened, vignette & border.

A new personal best for me!! Finally broken my PB that has stood for the last 5 years! Wonder how long before I berak it again?
Thanks to everyone who voted. FYI, up until 40 votes, I was on course to beat the site record as I was sitting there with a score of 8.6667 - its been a long week. :)

This just proves you can't tell from the thumbnail. Th thumbnail looks like a blob of brown. And then you open it.....

Speechless.

Between you & Alex, you have me wanting to come to London, just to go to Richmond Park.

Love the picture. Composition and framing are spot-on IMO. The lighting is beautifully captured and the processing carried out totally sympathetically towards the subject. Any thoughts on a tutorial for the PP, Mark?

Beautiful photograph! A minor after-the-fact quibble, but I think the frame is a bit heavy for it -- maybe half that width would do. But I have no quibbles at all with the photo itself. Congrats on your well-earned ribbon and new personal best.

congratulations mark on this amazing photograph and process .. and congratulation on a new pb .. i reckon this one will be pretty difficult to beat .. altho looking at the quality of your work it will only be a matter of time .. :)
i'm sure a lot of 'better halves' would have to put up with very similar behaviour from their dpc maniacs .. your story sounds very similar to mine .. well the "come here and tell me which photo I should enter" sort'v comment ..
i think to beat the site record would involve a most brilliant photograph, the correct challenge and a lot of luck .. those voters are a very fickle lot .. all the best .. you certainly have the talent, imagination and obsessive nature to do it !!!!!.. :)

Lovely shot. Great framing with the tree and wonderful crepuscular rays.

My only real nitpick is how bright the deer is when the sun is clearly striking the far side of him, and indeed under his chin the left side of his neck (the sunny side) appears darker than what should be the shady side - but that's a small price for such a lovely photo.

:- )
