So, this was quite an effort on both our parts to get something usable. Riley had a crash course in expressing extreme emotions through facial expressions. :)
I paid him $5 for the shoot and told him he'd get another $5 if it ribboned. :) Worth it.
Regarding the one 1 vote - who knows - who cares. :) I do suspect it may be part of the balance of entering a subject that is well known - you may get some high votes for it, but you will also get some "penalty" votes. It is what it is. Helluva score in any case. I should retire now - I'll never top that.
The setup: Old PC (one of a dozen piece of crap oldies sitting in my garage) I put a sparkler inside it and that made it harder for me to get Riley to move in close - he was a little afraid. I also wanted the sparks to be at the tip of the screwdriver - I got a couple like that, but bad facial expressions. Went through a couple boxes of sparklers. I wanted to use my fog machine as well, but it didn't work. :( Maybe just as well.
Thanks for all the votes, favs and comments!

I've had lots of requests and I will be putting together something of a tips/tutorial together. Just as soon as I get done with a couple work projects. Thanks for your patience.

There is something magical about this image. In true Norman Rockwell style, you have captured it perfectly. Given, that it's Advanced Editing, were you not permitted to move the spark? I know that you tried to get it closer to the screwdriver, but could you just move it in post? Anyway, I really like it.

Had time to put that together yet? I'd love to know too! :-)

Congrats on the ribbon. This is priceless, and who knows how useful Riley will find it in the future to be able to pull out an extreme emotion "look" on demand when he wants to!!
That kid was worth every dollar... Excellent work, Art. Your 8+ is well deserved (probably ruined your update button, though ;-). Congrats on the ribbon and new PB ((Hugs)).
It's a good job you didn't mention the extra five-dollar bonus for an 8+ score!
(The one I wanted to win.) Glad to see your creativity getting a just reward.
wow my 8 brought you DOWN! this is definitely an instance where i recognized the subject and held back so as not to appear biased to myself. awesome image should hang on your wall.
Riley needs an agent. My kids get $5 for the shoot. 5 for yellow, 10 for Red, 15 for blue and additional 5 for a free study ribbon. That's why I do so many self portraits. :)
LOL - that's why I'll never tell Riley you exist and have blocked you from his computer. :P
couldn't get a Blue even with an 8+ shot, eh?! I feel so genuinely sorry for you Ken :). Really great shot, and I actually like your processing here a lot (unlike many other super-topazed images in this challenge)

Double congratulations, Ken - for the ribbon, and for the huge PB! You should be able to hire Riley out to advertisers and make a packet. He's got the looks and he's got the talent. Heck, just take him off to Hollywood.
You need to hunt down the person who gave this a 1 and sick Godzilla on his *ss. Great work Ken beautifully edited, and in a few years you will like this shot even more, when he is a few years older.
I didn't get around to voting, but I did have a look at this one (because I recognised the little tyke and knew it was yours). I wondered how you got the spark there - is it, in fact, a sparkler?
Oh, by the way, congratulations for the massive score with the ribbon.
When I saw this I thought dang!! I think you are going to give me a run for my money. It will be fun to see who comes out on top. If I was a betting girl I think I would put my money on this one for the blue.
This is fabulous! I hope this wins a ribbon. Riley did an awesome job with the expression. This is my fave of the challenge because it really catches the sentiment of Rockwell and the processing is spot on.
