Been reading the comment about heart vs shot and have to agree about the heart end of it. Since I've started taking pics in Oct of last year, I've aquired a lot of photos. But what's funny, is the other night at our Salsa club, decided to take my camera and just shoot and play with motion blur etc. Out of 160 crappy shots (due to bad lighting) I got one that just about knocked me out of my chair. It just nails me everytime I look at it. So I have no choice but to enter it into the challenge - even if it isn't the best tech photo I have. So to make a long story short, go with your heart on this challenge. =) |

Great challenge !
I'll do my best to be in but I can be 100% sure, my last entry was in april 2007 and I haven't taken nor edited photos in too many months, so really a hard mission. By another hand, I don't feel very well so to find a "nice" photo with bad mood is tricky too.
But as winning is not the point here, what the hell?
I'm sure that this special challenge will show wonderful photos so it won't be difficult to leave comments.
I really like the idea, I just wish to have enough strength to be able to achieve this.
Again, thank you for your support ! |

Just a note for those who didn't realize yet, the issues from earlier have all been resolved. |

Been along time since I've visited y'all, when I got the email for this challenge I figured it was great time to stop by. Been cruising the site and WOW some really got stuff in the years since I've been here. Good luck to all and happy shooting.

Oooh!
I skimmed the thread, sounds lots of fun!
I was thinking of entering one image before I realised it was taken on FILM and then scanned in, dangit!
So I'm restricted to stuff taken since 2004!
(Not that this is a problem, just made me stop and think)

Is anybody else excited to see some really fantastic photos on this challenge? I mean, I know that my chances in a free study are near 0%, much less a challenge like this. That aside, I cant wait to enjoy the photos that people submit. I can only imagie how fantastic they will be. As for me, I am sure mine will not rank well. But, I would be pleased as long as people enjoy the photo (comments would be nice, so I know they do)!
...does anybody else really enjoy when they get comments on their challenge submissions? There have been some challenges where I have gotten more comments (good comments) than the winner. To me, I won!

There are sure to be some eye-popping images in this challenge, can't wait to see what everyone has dug up to enter. I've entered mine, not an eye popper but, I like it.
Good Luck all,
Mac,

Greetings to All
Hey folks I would like to explain my point of view concerning comments. Not all of us are aspiring professional photographers. I just like to have fun. When I was submitting photos for the challenges I wanted to learn and sent the best I could do with a minimal amount of knowledge experience and equipment. I found that hard core criticism from long time pros was rather irritating. I learned to improve my skills from constructive and non-condecending comments. Keep in mind that someones submission may be thier very first experience with a photo challenge. Criticize thier art as you would have them critize yours. What is worse? To comment with minimal amount of knowledge or an overload of knowledge. OK I feel better now. Have a Fun Day. |

I am really heart sick over this challenge at the moment. My motherboard decided to die, so I have no access to my photos. I am posting on an old dinosaur of a computer that was living in the closet so even if I pulled some photos off of their storage device, this computer would not handle Photoshop. My hubby is working to build me a newer/better/faster computer right now. Hopefully he will get it done today so I will have time to select and edit a photo from the past. I have wanted this opportunity for awhile, its just bad timing. |

Those with lots of experience have to walk a fine line. Obviously they should always make comments that are constructive. However since they do not know who the photo belongs to when they are leaving that comment it is impossible to tailor the comment to the level of experience of the owner of the photo. So you will sometimes get comments that are technically over your head, or perhaps overly simplistic with no details on how to achieve the suggested improvement.
If you find that is the case, wait till after the challenge is over, then send the commentor a pm and ask them to explain further or reword their comment. As long as you ask politely I am sure you will have no problem getting a better explanation. Or if you have a lack of comments and wonder why your shot did not do better, feel free to start a thread in the forum and ask for some CC, and I am sure you will get some good response.
Of course with all CC, it is up to you to decide how valid it is, and how much or how little you value each other person's point of view.
Good luck. :)

I think Langdon should offer an honourary ribbon to anyone or everyone who does 100% comments on this challenge, with real comments. (not one word or cut and paste type stuff) :)
Of course then someone has to decide what is a "real" comment, so it would never work. It was a good idea though....for about 30 seconds!

I dont know much about photoshop. Can anybody tell me, if 'soft focus' effect available in Picassa is admissible within the rules of Advance editing? |

I try and make it a rule, for me, that if I vote under a 5 then I leave a constructive comment on why. Personally, I think this should be a requirement but it will never happen. |

Wahhhh!!! I still haven't found a shot to enter. Most of the ones I'm most proud of have already been in challenges.
I'll keep looking.... |
