I am in exactly the same position.

My computer with all my images and PS went up in smoke so I may not get it back up in time to enter, hopefully I will have it back together tomorrow and be able to see if there is something I can get ready to enter if not I will get to enjoy all the other images everyone else enters.

I had the opposite problem: haven't been shooting long enough to have many/any "killer" shots from which to choose :-(

I finally decided that this was more of a historic participation than a challenge (since the odds of me placing in the top 50% require divine intervention). So I stopped obsessing about whether or not this was my "best EVER" shot.

Mine is definitely not my best shot ever, those have all been entered into challenges before. Instead I looked for something that pleased me and made me happy. I will probably not be in the top 50% either, but I have never been all about the scores anyway.

I think about half of us are following a path similar to that ... a someone said earlier, a shot with the "most meaning" as compared to "best" ...

I'm definitely not looking for "best" - just one that represents me well and of which I am proud.

Advanced, yes so long as it's not used to remove a major element. Basic = NO, it's selective editing.

The one I chose is only a hidden gem for me because when I originally took it I hated the photo. Didn't even edit it for over a year. Didn't even look at the files from that particular event. Then I called it up and when I was done with the editing, the photo came very much alive. So it does hold much meaning for me, only because it was not a success upon first view, then afterwards it was incredible how much I liked it. It is not a best at all for dp viewers, but for me it is best only because of how I felt after the post processing.

Thanks L2, now I can post something for this challenge...

I have two that I am "waffling" between. I don't know that I would consider either one my "best" of anything, perhaps not even "good."

But, both of them, to me, have a story to tell. One is a bit more humorous, and technically a touch stronger, the other is a bit more evocative but lacks some in the technical department.

That, and they were both on this 'puter, so I didn't have to go poking around on two other 'puters to find it. (I'm a touch lazy, at times).

Whew! After doing a search on my computer of all pictures over 1MB, coming up with 36,000, and browsing through a lot of them (takes too long to load thumbnails to go through ALL of them), I'm realizing I don't have pictures I'd consider "My Best" as competition for what I see here weekly. I've selected a few shots from a few years ago taken with point and shoot cameras as being my "Better" pictures. I considered not embarrassing myself and not submitting but Langdon wants everyone to participate, so I'll put in the best I can come up with. I have a much better camera now and more experience, but I wouldn't call my more recent pictures better. That was a real reality check to concentrate on taking better pictures.

I am sure I have not shot my best photograph yet. And after a technical meltdown of my last computer and a failed back-up set or at least one my new computer cannot read, I am left with very few images from the past. I did take one this morning that I like a lot. Not very good, but a total departure for me and spur of the moment.

It'll show up after the challenge voting starts.

We're all excited too. Be patient ;)

There are some pre-cognitives in our midst. Don't scoff at your potential power.

Actually, I was surprised when I didn't see mine either. I haven't entered enough challenges in the past year to remember if it shows up immediately or not. When I didn't see mine I thought that maybe it just shows after the challenge starts.

I haven't entered yet, but it should show up as a green line on your profile page in the challenge entries. Does it? You won't see the thumbnail until voting opens.

Question: can I enter a remake (reprocessed with color conversion) of a previous challenge entry? A careful observer would be able to recognize subject/angle/frame. The treatment is radically different.

It doesn't show on your home page, but if you click the Challenges page the thumbnail should be next to the challenge.

no. if you have a frame just before or after it, you can, but it cannot be the same frame.

For example, if you original entry was DSC_3045, you could enter 3043 or 3046, but not 3045, no matter how differently it was edited, cropped, etc.

I could not decide. May still change my mind before the deadline but I did get a shot this week I am very proud of and for the moment it is going to be my entry. Should be an interesting challenge to go through. Tough on those who like to try to do 100% comments though (I am not one of those but do apreciate those who do make the time).
