no...

Thanks, K. That should help narrow my choices a little.

I am in a situation where I entered a photo in the past, when HDR was not allowed in Advanced. Can I enter the same frame when it is merged with 4 others in HDR? Or do I have to remove that frame before editing the others?

You cannot enter the same original image in more than one challenge. You'll have to remove that frame. Sorry!

Good call. Remember 'good' isn't absolute here. It's called Hidden Gem. That means that the best shot for this challenge is one that represents that for you. Just look through what you *have* taken and pick from there.

I reviewed pics from 6 years ago that reminded me of people and places that actually brought tears to my eyes. Finding a gem amongst those brought one to the surface that I have only ever showed a tiny handful of people yet has retained its impact for more than 3 years.

I was going to throw my old fly macro in the mix since I never got a chance to grab a score for it, but after reviewing a few thousand pics and giving it a bit of time, the decision was clear.

On a side note, I wonder if ANYONE is a clear shoe-in for this one. My guess is that the top 100 will be 7+.

Sure would be neat to see an entry by Langdon and - dare I say it - DREW. heh. Although no billiards shots. ;)

ETA not sure if anyone else noticed his post, but PM'd AV3333 regarding his Q abt picassa and soft focus effect filter.

I've entered a shot from last year, one that two DPCers will recognize at least. Because they were there when I took it and they've probably got similar or the same shot.

If Langdon and Drew don't enter...I think they should be punished!

550 and counting....:-)

Argh, I am bouncing back and forth between color and B&W...in a way I wish it would rollover so that I can quit agonizing.

I have it down to 688 potential entries... not surprisingly all with my D300, I only found a couple I liked enough to enter from my G2. Oh and hi everybody!

Thanks eschelar. As an amateur, most of MY shots ARE sentimental vs technical :-)

That's a great question. In an open challenge I'm gonna guess 20% or less.

I would guess even lower than that, maybe 5%.

This would make a great poll question.

I always look at my entry with a Gamma Correction RGB .90 and then look at the same with a Gamma Correction RGB 1.20. If they look good there then I do not need to do any tweeking. If not I will then lower or up the gamma anywhere from -.07 to +.07...just to find a happy medium.

I KNOW you have something beautiful to see. Quick, YOU MUST enter...even if it is a picture of a fuzzy sock....

NO, Wait!!! Scratch that! Argh, now look what I did. I gave someone an idea.

Depends, do you mean "real" calibration or are you including software like Monitor Calibration Wizard?

You know, I think that's the one thing I don't have a picture of is a fuzzy sock... Or... maybe... lemme check... :-)
03/09/2009 01:37:40 PM · #150
I'm hoping there will be at least 700 entries... if so, this challenge will coincide with my 200,000th vote cast -- cool!
