Seriously, you do not find it scary? It is unsustainable. If things keep up like this it is going to come crashing down on us at some point, and turning things around will not be easy. |
i'm not overly concerned about the size of it, only that that gap between what we produce isn't increasing at the rate we are borrowing.
also i have no problem borrowing so long as its used to increase our capacity to produce more, e.g. infrastructure, education, things that make us competitive in world.

It's an enormous amount of debt and it isn't slowing down anytime soon. And from what I understand the US gov. borrows 'federal' dollars from the 'federal' reserve so its only growing into more debt. Its a scheme. A robbery. |

first, investors continue to increase their holding in US debt so they arent concerned the US will default, second the increase is due to our current recession, tax income is down since people are paying less by earning less, and social programs to sustain the public them are up.
now can we continue on the current pace forever? no, be we arent at the break point yet.
the problem isn't the size of the debt, its the underlying problems. People see big numbers and they freak out, but there is nothing to suggest the country is doomed, but we ought to try to get back on the right track.
the Bush presidency really put a hurting on us, but nothing Obama is doing is fixing it. He should be going out of his way to get business back in the US and creating jobs, not increasing the handouts or shift the tax burden or giving out healthcare. Not saying Romney will fix it, but at least he talks the right game. We need more people paying taxes, not less people paying more becuase they can afford to.

I just got done voting! I had to wait over an hour to vote, not complaining, glad that so many people are showing up to vote. Get out an vote everyone, your vote matters. Even in states are not battleground state.
In Utah we may not have much of a say on who gets into the presidency, but we do have a close congressional race that will make a big difference. |

I voted today.
Its election times that I feel proud of my state, remaining Blue despite being included in the "makers" category.
Its times like these that we must resist debt-fear-mongering. Not too long ago, Mitt was claiming that we couldn't afford FEMA,
that we would be sacrificing our grand-children's futures for the luxury of Emergency Federal Help.
Remember that bullshit and go vote now! |

You lose either way. Economy is being propped up via QE1, QE2, and QE3 is about to start.. they are pumping money into the stock market so it doesn't crash. When they are ready, they will let it fall. Then they will announce a solution that will sound great when everyone is in the dumps.. A new currency that will be used world wide, and there will be incentive to go along with it. A completely electronic currency, that you can't hold in your hand, one that will need an implanted microchip.. or an ID card. And instead of paying your taxes.. they will just automatically extract it from your account... and many many other things that go along with this. They will have full control of your money, while you go out and bust your ass to make more. They will be able to delete or put holds on your money if they claim your a criminal. If you forget to register your car.. they will have the power to put a hold on your account until you take care of it. They will be able to track everything you do. It has already started in India.
We shouldn't be talking about which president to choose, we should be talking about how to get rid of the broken corrupt system. Wake up people. The news is distracting you to put blame on a particular president or policy or whatever. When it's actually the entire system. Open your mind and think freely.. decide for yourself.
And another thing to ponder while your out voting today.. Take a look at the wiki page for our voting system... it's about 30 pages that try and explain how it works. Just another corrupt system to add to the list.
=) I kinda came out of the shadows to post.. lol.. the topic got me going. Anyhow.. carry on. |

It's all mail in ballots here in Washington State and though I miss the accomplished feeling of walking into a voting booth and doing my civic duty it was very convenient for me to get the job done. I have to say the mail in ballots seem to make sense when I here about the lines people in some some States are having to wait in and knowing that certain legislators have gone out of their way to shorten voting hours, etc. to (it's hard to think otherwise) suppress the vote in certain districts around the country. |

Amen to that. Romney has no real plan other than to become president. What scares me is the people he's bringing with him. Not only Ryan, but all the Bush neocons with him happy to start another war, since war is profitable for them, and fear keeps them in power (watch the BBC documentary, "the politics of fear"). Romney, though probably a moderate at heart, will go along with the flow. Tax cuts for the rich. Removal of deductions to hurt the middle class struggling to pay for a home and family. Removal or weakening of the social safety net.
Tax cuts for the rich create jobs? Look at the past 5 presidents, see the tax cuts or increases, and the job numbers. There's no evidence whatsoever--if anything, the opposite.
The debt is nothing but an excuse to cut social programs. Most the money goes in to the military and wars.
If Romney wins, this nation is on it's way to becoming a plutocracy.
What I never understood is why so many people...mostly the middle class and below, don't see that a vote for Romney is a vote for the 1% and not for someone who will take care of their own classes' needs.
Anyway, I voted, Democrat via the Working Family Party. Won't count for much, since my state is already blue. I am depending on others to check the facts and base their vote on that. Check out //factcheck.org and for a quick view //factcheck.org/2012/10/whoppers-of-2012-final-edition/

sigh...... I could right a whole page worth of things explaining why you are wrong and why I am right. But honestly it won't do any good you will think you are right and I will think I am right. No one is going to change anyone's minds on election day in a thread like this so why waste time. Are you just bored, or do you just like to make people mad???
Everyone just get out and vote, I don't care who you vote for, just vote. It's important even if you live in a state that you think it won't make a difference. |
