El roi did you really believe that if romney got in it was going to be all sunshine and flowers and all if a sudden there would be no debt and full employment surely you're not that naive?

I'm pleased Obama has stayed in power, but more importantly than all that shizzle did Washington legalise marijuana? ;)

Definitely agree with you and Brennan on this count. I was quite impressed with both his speech and McCain's speech in 2008, and thought they were both odd examples considering the fashion that their campaigns were run.
Both McCain and Romney seemed to diverge from centrist after the primaries instead of aiming towards it like often has been the case, and were increasingly seeming to be in a personal grudge match towards the end, only to revert and have very respectable and high quality concession speeches, with McCain going so far as to quiet his displeased supporters when they boo'ed Obama.

WA and CO legalized. OR didn't pass. Several other measures of various things relating to marijuana are still pending, so far as I know.

Congrats Americans with the election. I'm happy for you that Obama (also a worthy Nobel price winner) gets a chance to continue the initiatives he started. Consensus from Norwegian newspapers is that most Norwegians are happy with the election result.

That was a speech.

Excellent speech. I wish hope it would actually generate some bipartisanship.

Listening to bbc coverage driving to work, interesting statistics Obama only got 40% of the white vote, but 75% of the Latin vote, and looking like he'll be 1 percentage point up on the popular vote. 75% in married women voted with Obama for us Europeans romneys anti abortion stance is third world.

They just said in the 0-8 yr range less than 50% are white which I found interesting, some of the more extreme tea partiers didn't get ejected which is reassuring.

I enjoy a good us election all those years doing economics at college

On the front page of a Norwegian newspaper (direct translation):

"Tonight's victory made Obamas victory 4 years ago even larger"

Can't really argue with that.

a few thoughts

we really need to get rid of the electorate, as least break up the electorate so that every state doesn't send ALL votes one way, especially when the popular vote was nearly split down the middle.

this is clearly a country divided.

we need viable third party, people are forced to fall into on of two categories in which they didn't entirely fall. there is no way i subscribe to the entire party's views, i shouldn't have to vote for the guy who who represents what most important to me at a given time and hope they dont screw around with what i dont want changed.

the more important policy makers (congress and house) were overshadowed in every area by this popularity contest. it would be nice if people paid as much attention to those races as the others.

Obama again has a democratic congress to work with there is no reason why he shouldn't accomplish something, he has little or no resistance.

hope the D's are going to put up someone better than Biden in four years... hopefully Christie decides to run for the R's. of course a Christie/Biden debate would be entertainment gold.

Well, that will certainly shorten lines at the polls ... ;-)

I think you mean you want to get rid of the Electoral College ...

Now, THAT's a Freudian slip :-)

Dude, WE are "the electorate". I assume you're speaking up in favor of getting rid of the electoral college?

so, non-american scaremongers, how about your country's debt clocks ;-)

jesus, did you see ireland's external debt rate?

Yeah, it's a long and embarrassing story involving politicians and bankers. And the economic mis-management and corruption continues.

We're going to get hammered again in yet another 'austerity' budget this December, so plenty of protests and strikes over the next few months, no doubt.

Here's a nice diagram: //www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15748696

This shows foreign debt per person in the US running at €35k. Here in Ireland it's €390k per person. It'll take me a few years to pay that back, I think...

its not the president its the people that back him, not all, most. These are the people who are expecting handouts, dependent on them making life decision that they wont need to pay back debt, work hard etc.

when government promises to gives you everything there us no reason to do want anything for yourself. Not saying Romney would have fixed that but at least people would be worried the free ride wouldn't be on the way.

these are the same people who somehow elected Jessie Jackson Jr again... smh.

For those who want a little love and less divisiveness, I really enjoyed this article coming out of Canada.

The US is not a country divided.

You're not really as divided as you feel. In Canada there are several parties, and the winner usually wins with around 40% or less of the vote (I'm sure someone will correct me on that figure, so thanks in advance.) It's just the way it works when people pigeonhole themselves into a party that sort-of fits. The curve is not a "U", it's an upside-down "U". Lots' of people are in the overlap of the Ven diagram. Don't worry, be happy!

Oh, LISTEN to yourself! You're telling us that "most" democrats are only such because they want to suck off the public teat? That's like me telling you that "most" Republicans are committed to removing all government controls so they can rape the public with impunity... And "most" of the REST of the Republicans are hard-core bible-thumpers who think the planet's 6,000 years old C'mon!

As a non-American I have no voice. I can just say what I think. Here goes;

- The last President you had was Bill Clinton. Bush made me sick as he disgraced a great people. Obama is a weak, weak, weak man, someone I, personally, will not trust with even running a state. He could not even be trusted to speak the truth..... Bengasi comes to mind. Hillary could and should have been the one, but the Americans spoke. Now they spoke again, they chose. What a difference Romney would have made! Anyone other than what you allowed, again.
- This government has cost you too much and this time do not blame Bush and his puppet master, Cheney. You spoke again and chose the beginning of your flood of tears. Your weak President has no intention to stop the hemorrhage of wealth to China. Watch as you become even more indebted to China to the extent that China may become the Big Brother.
- Your democracy within a democracy to choose a president is such a dilution of intent, especially when the weaker candidates present themselves. I do not have the answers, but I will be very uncomfortable in a system where my vote is not important enough to make a difference, where I just hand my vote to some other power hungry individuals to live out their political dreams.

So, for the better of this world, I will ask "God Bless America". This is not about idiots, puppets or weaklings, this is about 300,000,000 basically good, hard working human beings that has made a contribution to this rock we live on. That is why I wish for you to take hands.

DISCLAIMER; THIS IS JUST MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS, I AM SHARING IN GOOD FAITH. THIS IS NOT AN ATTACK ON ANYONE. ;-P
