I don't think I've ever been so happy to pass my average.

Seems that the only thing You need to do is to really f***-up our pic to get a score.

He's got it figured out! I'm at a loss to explain how someone who "gets it" this well only has one ribbon.

You gave an AVERAGE score of 9.0? Those could end up getting tossed out by the tabulation system which checks for skewed voting (too many high or low scores). But thank you for taking the time to vote on all of the images.

My guess is he's just messing around and having a bit of fun. No challenge is worthy of an avg vote of 9+ across the board.

That's ridiculous. A thought - you could send them a PM back and let them know, nicely, what you think about their idea and/or their comment!

For a downright rude comment like that it would be better to "report" the comment and let SC remove it and give the person a reprimand. If you pm them it is just an invitation to get slammed again. Not to mention you would be revealing to a voter which shot is yours.

I think there are so many entries, people are just picking out some to comment on as it would take a long time to comment all. I am working on commenting all, but it will take me a couple of days.

Well, as you probably know, people tend to vote a little tougher on the Free Studies. And a technically deficient photo can score points in a regular challenge just for meeting the theme; you don't have that mitigating factor in a Free Study.

Meanwhile, I'm thrilled to see my score climb from 4.000 (when I went to bed last night) all the way up to 5.200 today. I really never want to score under a 5.000 again if I can help it!

Quick Edit: Not saying your photo is "technically deficient!"

ok, let's see here. Here is the voter consensus- Kids and babies (unless you are scalvert or SandyP) 0- 4; pets 0 - 4; flowers (unless you are ursula) 0-4; macro water droplets 8 - 10; sunsets of Australia, Iceland or the Pacific NW 7 - 10, macros of bugs 5 - 7 (unless you are roz).

Ok, so that kind of sums it up. :~)

buggar judy .. thats a woeful score and i bet it in no way reflects the quality of your image .. :)

i've just woken up to a very woeful score .. dropping like a bomb .. getting a heap of 1's and 2's and 3's etc because ppl have seen something very similar in a recent challenge .. but i was hoping ppl would give it an unbiased score irrespective and vote on its merits ..
& i thought that the whole point of a free study is to enter your best shot of the month .. it was my best for the month & i didnt have anything else that came even close to that moment ...
in a free study we often see photographs that have been in side challenges or similar to ones that were in a real challenge .. & how often do we see the same scene, shot from nearly the same spot, and i dont think ppl suffer for that ..
the highs and lows of dpc ... !!!!! ..:)

I agree! We're supposed to put in whatever we want to put in and assume that people will vote on it for what it is in THIS challenge!

Actually I think the problem is if you know who shot the image you shouldn't vote on it. I'm not sure if that is a rule or not but I know it has been mentioned in the forums many times.

I have made a big mistake again. I read that the Free Study was an April Fools Challenge and so entered a humorous picture. Well, it appeared humorous to me at the time.

Sitting with a 4.8 at the mo.

Perhaps I need some time away from DPC??

i didnt think that was such an issue when often we see self portraits in challenges or ppl we recognise, or even styles or a subject that relates directly to a photographer ..
just because you think you know who the photographer is doesnt mean you shouldnt vote .
i think the general idea is that if you cant vote unbiased then dont vote ..
& if you know who the photographer is it doesnt always mean that you'll cast a biased vote .. altho sometimes i guess it does .. :)

Well, I haven't been around that long so I would have taken the polite route, but I don't think reporting a rude comment like that would be out of line.

i voted on every image on this challenge (aside from 1 because it's my buddy's pic and i know it's his) and there are some amazing stand out images. i appreciate that they are miles better than anything that i've submitted to date, and deserve to have higher scores than my submission. after seeing everyone's photos, i'm very pleased with my score so far. i mean, i know i can't compete with a lot of these shots, i'm just here to learn.

reading through this thread makes me nervous to go back and give comments. it just seems like it's not fun for people and it makes me sad. for the record, i didn't vote anything lower than a 4.

You have given an average score of 6.2512.

I'm with Roz - Not sure what people get hung up about - if you like the image vote on it.

Knowing who took it only becomes an issue if you give a biased score because of the person and not the photo.

I could not find the exact rule anywhere, but I am sure I remember seeing somewhere that it is against rules to vote on an image that you have seen and know who's image it is. (that especially comes into play during side challenges like the dpl or dpco when a team helps a member decide which image to enter in a challenge) What I think is interesting is that lots of folks around here enjoy having themselves in a lot of their entries, so everyone that is a regular here knows that it is their entry anyways, but for some reason that is ok.

Ok, back to scores. Mine has been on the rise, finally. :) Still a long way to go, but it is now above my average.

I think you need to put an addendum on the macro of water drops that it only counts that way for certain users. :( My one and only "drop shot" did not do well at all, and it was a good image, but the drop haters were out in force.

There is no rule about voting on shots when you know the user. There IS, however, a rule about asking people to vote for your photo specifically.
