K10DGuy:
She presented it with such feeling, in hands covered with a fabric of a white that was almost unnatural, like it was impossible that they could even be there. Cupped within that brilliance was the object of her offering, a candy apple shade of sparkling wonder, capped with gold and flecked with a texture that grabbed the light and scattered it sparklingly.

As she held it out, her eyes showed a touch of smile, but also poured out in hope and pleading. Would I purchase this thing, so lovingly displayed? Would I help feed her this night, or perhaps give her more coin towards finding a warm place to sleep.

So I smiled and reached into my pocket and produced a handful of coin, and exchanged it for that simple thing, the offering made so seemingly full of innocence and charm, and knew that I was most likely a sucker for doing so, but not caring for that moment. Who was to know her real story? Who was to really say what fate held in store for her, but for that one brief moment I could pretend that I had helped move her towards something better, and the magic of that offering stayed in my heart.

pekesty:
Wow, that's quite the capture. Great photo, National Geographic quality.

To be compared to a National Geographic photo is quite a compliment!

"gorgeous." from posthumous

He commented after the challenge had ended and I was just glad to know that somebody appreciated the photo. Especially, you know, he who gives out posthumous ribbons =)

There are many, but this one still astonishes me for its immediacy and egagement:

Blackbox:"I hope you mean - last walk of the evening. If so, I like it. If not, I hate it. Maybe that guy is holding a shotgun behind his back? It's a good photo but no, I don't like it now. It's just to weird for me. That dog looks like he knows something bad is going to happen. No, I don't like it one bit. Please tell me I'm wrong..."

From Joey Lawrence: "this freaks the shit out of me, 10"

It always makes me smile when I know he has done stuff like this:

"As baby Billy nursed with his mother, she sighed. She was hoping this wouldn't happen, but it had. How was she going to explain the color of his skin to his father? If only that weekend in Mexico hadn't happened!" - K10DGuy

And then there is this one:

I felt like I'd arrived when I got this comment:

e301: Ah, those comments make me smile. I'm sure I remember commenting on this, but whetever - I certainly remember looking at it. Some photos creep up on you, some slap you round the face and demand attention, and this one - well, it's like when you suddenyl notice an old friend has been standing by your side for a while, and you don't know where they arrived from.

This image/comment needs context......

I shot this with my camera in my hand with my arm hanging 'cause my daughter won't let me take her picture any more.

I was delighted with the results as this image wasn't cropped/moved around for composition.

posthumous"I can't believe how centered she is. You should consider becoming a gunfighter."

Every comment I received made me realize that extreme responses to a shot like this are more reflective of the viewer than the image. And I got a real kick evoking a real response ....good or bad I had an effect on the viewer.

Hmm, great question - made me go through all my comments again. Definitely have a lot of great ones...a couple that really stand out for me though are:

from Melethia

For

With: So this doesn't meet a lot of the standard composition rules... you've got clutter everywhere (cars in the background, signs), you've got a pole in the middle... and all that said, I think this is a bitchin'waycool shot. Compositionally, despite what I said already, it does have a neat triangle thing working for it between the two birds and the van's driver. Really has a great mood to it and works quite well in B&W - wouldn't work at all in color, I don't think. Neat shot!

Because she calls my shot "bitchin' way cool'

And roz

For

With: FANTASTIC .. not only because its an awesome photograph but because i thought the bird was dead as a thumb !!! ... love the reflection and colours ... :)
edit after posting .. ok i decided to see how i could possibly have thought this bird was a dead bird as a thumb, especially after looking at the larger version .. IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE A DEAD BIRD !!! ... i think it must have been coz i looked at the thumb before opening for about 1/100th of a second ... maybe at 1/50th of a second it would have been totally obvious that the bird alive and having a drink .. :)

Because it still makes me laugh.

And SO many more...

i've got some very nice comments and critiques in the past but this one is the most interesting by far

Comment by K10DGuy:
At the end of the world, at the end of time, one man was destined to try and save humanity. Using a new technology that had never been tested, he was to return to the past and try to find a way to stave off the inevitable. To somehow find a way to cheat fate and continue the human race past their slotted time in the universe.

Now came the moment. Now came his chance to fulfill that destiny. With a final cry of determination, he ran towards the shimmering wall that divided the now with the then, and leapt into his past, and his future.

"I would take some comfort in the fact that some exceptional judges of a photograph have given you big scores for this; in fact, just about all of DPC's top judges. But ehnh, that score and that finish are not really to be sniffed at. Top work, and fun."

"I voted this challenge for the only reason I could give a 10 to this photo. It's beautiful and you show courage in doing this. Congrats!"

Why can't kids be naked anymore without people assuming evil intentions? I just shake my head at the world sometimes...

This is AWESOME! You should publish a book of these bird photos! They are magazine feature quality.

What a great thread! I've had more fun reading it.

Throughout my participation on this site, jonfrommk always left me funny, thoughtful, encouraging messages. So this might not be THE most memorable comment (haven't found The One), but it is memorable via its poster, who may rest in peace.

jonfrommk: Wow very strong portrait especially given that you took it on the hoof rather than at a studio. A top 100 position in a free study with a baby shot really does illustrate how good this image is

A picture that if you had your own studio could hang in the window and would be a great advertisment to passers by about how skilled you really are

marvellous

One of my most recent comments gave me a good chuckle.

"I'll have my right sneaker for dinner if this isn't Enzo! Great shot, will easily be top 10."

Ha! He must have thought Enzo was on vacation in Toronto.

Thanks Tez, glad you liked it.

I tried to narrow it down to just one but that was impossible. Pretty much every comment I get from Art Roflmao I enjoy. But this one takes the cake. From BlueZamia on this image.
"From least fav thread.
I picked this one because it seems very small and pixelated.
Bet it was an one of your first challenges

"Very cool work. I don't know how it was done, but I only hope he is alive after this shot.
("Take one... Fred. We have only one shot of this, so make sure you are falling parallel. I already called medics, so don't worry... 3..2...1... JUMP")

i got this from NikonJeb

"I gotta say this......

For many years, I avoided going to The Wall in D.C.

Too damn many of my friends' names are on it, and I knew it would be really hard to be there with their spirits.

Finally, after many years, I broke down and made the journey.....not that it's far away, or that I haven't made the two hour trek to D.C a zillion times.

It was one of the most beautiful, yet painful moments of my life.

For so many years, it seemed like my friends died in vain, for a reason nobody cared about, and didn't appreciate.

Yet this young lady from Montana managed to capture, in this man's moment with a friend, all of the emotions that come tumbling down on you....when you find his name.

Katherine....you are really something special. "

I sincerely loved the following:

Comment by PhotoInterest:
Not sure on what to say here. It just doesn't quite do it for me and I can't tell you why, except...perhaps, the composition with the other details around it?? I don't know why I'm trying to comment because I can't put it into words but, perhaps, "I don't get it" may come closest rather than, "boring"??? Sorry. Don't mean to be so cruel sounding. I really don't. Just don't know how else to say it and figure that saying nothing is not great either??? Ok, shutting up now. :)

Thank you. I was getting tired of hitting the '5' button. Very well seen and captured image here. I really like the color tone used, the composition is strong, and the details are great. Nicely done!

This really made me smile.

Reading enzo's ( hotpasta) "places I have been since 2006" reads like a travel agency brochure, I wouldn't be surprised to see a shot from him of my backyard in Bedford, NH or an emporer penguin colony in Antarctica!

FWIW -- I have a left chuck taylor size 10 if anyone needs one :-)
