Well thats kinda hard to pin down weather wise as we can have a foot of snow in the am and be +30C in the afternoon...

And yes snow is very possible in July :P but its been pretty good here lately so most likely it will be mostly sunny and in the mid-ish 20C's

Sounds like packing for this trip is going to be the challenge topic for the week... HA! (checklist: winter parka, hiking boots, sweatshirt, t-shirts, jeans, shorts, swimming trunks, sandals, sneakers, laptop, camera gear, backpack, etc. - Continental Airlines is gonna kill me with extra luggage charges! HAHAHA!)

I'll certainly be one of those without a vehicle (and arriving at YYC around 2:15pm), so if there are other suggestions for transportation, I'd appreciate it. I assume that I can get a cab, right?

Another stupid question... How many places take US$ and/or VISA? I assume that I'll need to change some money at the airport?

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all!

Some places will take USD but at par. VISA? Most places. I'd get some Canadian though. Not sure about the exchange rates at the airport. You might take a bit of a hit compared to other places. i.e. the bank

most places take Visa/MasterCard/Interac -- you can use US$ but it will cost you 5-15% depends who is ripping you off .. there will be a money exchage place at the airport it MIGHT be cheaper than some other places -- it is easier to exchange us <-> cnd in canada than the usa ...

Okay, I didn't realise the OVC was attached to McMahon. That makes it MUCH easier!
Now if I only weren't staying in the NE it would be simple, since I drive past the stadium coming into town from BC. I wonder if I can get my sister to move her house before then??

So we're arranging something for Friday evening, right? Right? (I want to see how these pros work with hangovers...)

Kilkenny's Irish pub in Brentwood (just north of the University) is nice.

Just a thought.

If justamistere doesn't mind hanging out till you arrive I can prob drive you at the same time as he is getting in at 1:10pm so after the flight is delayed and he gets through customs it should be close to 2:00pm anyway lol :P

shoot him a PM and or Ill try to do the same, my memory is like a siv lately...

I PM'd Dave. I don't mind anything, I'm easy to get along with.

I prefer Mastercard over American Express or Visa. Cash in CN is the best.

Since there is a stampede I expect you may get transportation by horse, or does stampede refer to the crowds crushing you? I may wear a hat I got from Ottawa, I gave my cowboy hat to my Sister in LA (Louisiana)?

Hiya fanatic,

I would absolutely bring some shorts, t-shirts, jeans and a jacket.. the weather here is very unstable.. one moment it can be 30 degrees C. and the next it could actually snow. Be prepared for a variety and you will be golden ;)

Those inquiring about money: When ever I go to the states I use my ATM and seem to have pretty good rates. Of course Visa is accepted everywhere pretty much but it's always good to have a little of the local currency. Banks are still your best exchange rate. Airports aren't too horrible but if you can head to your bank prior to coming.. you'll likely be better off. :)

Transportation.. if you are staying at the university.. I'd call them to find out the best route to the dorms.. There is possibly a direct bus going to and from. Of course Dave is and has been offering rides which is super nice.

Between Peter and Myself we will be picking up Kiwiness, Joey Lawrence, Energy Twins, NewRomancer and company.. Not entirely sure who else is needing assistance or who is renting cars.. If you are absolutely stuck.. drop a line and we'll see what we can work out :)

Getting extremely excited :)

Sounds good Sander..

We will need:
Airline, flight number, and arrival time and date into Calgary. It should all be on your itinerary (tickets) or the travel agent you bought them from should be able to tell you all that information as well :)

Roz - my wife and I will be driving in from Banff / Lake Louise area on Friday and staying at the campus. I'm not sure where the airport is on our drive in (looks close on the map) but we might be able to pick up one or two people later in the afternoon if it helps, say maybe 4 or 5? Let me know and I'll look closer at my drive times.
