ADDITIONAL VENUE?

Alright, spoke with Pedro and it was figured it may be reasonable to offer an additional venue to the festivities. As stated several times in this thread, some of the participants have heard we have some remarkable natural areas to see in the region and may be eager to taste the "special places" otherwise unseen.

Of course, Banff is always available but is also very "Tourist Focused". Lots of tours available for Banff through the regular channels. The idea is to get some interest and rent a van(s), pile in and go off the beaten path. I am willing to offer my keen knowledge of the area yet lackluster coordination skills to put this together including a tour which would be unseen otherwise. It will be sure to please!

As the premise is photography, it would be reasonable to assume a full day would be just the thing needed to get the full "Fresh Air" experience. We will see spectacular vistas, wildlife, share laughs and eat a variety of convenience store stacks all in an unencumbered environment. It will be a great deal of fun and the expense will be shared by those who wish to attend.

I expect we may put on 400 + kms this day and hope to get started in the wee hours of the morning returning in the wee hours of the eve. A moderate fitness level would be helpful though is not necessary as there are certain trails which would otherwise be unenjoyed.

The event will be on the 7th of July which is a Monday. I figure a total cost of $600 should cover the fuel, vehicle rental, insurance and maybe even some food. Will need 10 - 14 people including myself as the driver. Warm clothes and suitable footwear are a must. Otherwise, an ambition to have fun and take lots of photos will ensure the day is worthwhile.

As time is short, I will request a virtual "show of hands" prior to getting this planned.

As a final perspective, you can certainly rent a car etc, but expect it to cost you $250 individually for a day in the tourist traps. If you have any questions, please post or PM me and I'll try to answer as best as possible.

You will not be disappointed!

Lol, methinks you'd find it easier to find a bunkmate without the last line, for some reason.

Monday has always been slotted as vacation extension day here in Alberta. I guess you didn't get the memo? ;-)

Count me in... Sounds great! :-)

I'm gonna be there anyway (leaving on the 8th), so an "organized" excursion sounds like a perfect solution to me! I had planned to try to route myself around the "Stampede" festivities, but this sounds like it would be more beneficial and more fun. :-) I'm completely unfamiliar with the area and will be at the mercy of whomever I ask directions... HAHA (yeah, like that's gonna happen!)

I would love to go on the backpacking trip, I had thought of renting a vehicle myself.
I was an Assistrant Scoutmaster for about 10 years, helped my son become an Eagle Scout. So I have hiking experience and an Expedition-7 backpack for my camera/equipment. Excellent camera baclpacks

Currently I'm scheduled to leave Monday @11:00AM.
I'll be there and free all day Friday, the 4th.
I will see if I can extend my Air Canada departure, if you get enough volunteers.

Ansel Adams' nudes in nature are fantastic, too.

Great! That will be a tentative 5 people confirmed. No need to do backpack as the two hikes I have planned will be 3 hours duration each. Good luck on the reschedule with Air Cannuckada!

haven't had a chance to speak with them yet, but I would bet that myself, Roz, Joey, Kiwi, and Kosmik will also join. don't worry about another Van though - between Roz and I we can take another 8-10 people if the van is too full.

Alright, we deviate. I am very keen on being the tour guide, if there is still an interest for me in that role .... but..... are we renting a van or doing our own cars? If it is the latter, it will eliminate the cost of rental but then transfer the expense to the individuals offering their owns vehicle for use.

Either way, it matters little to me regarding the rental as it is a pain in the butt. I still have a few great spots to share and would certainly organize the events if needed.

Thoughts?

I have no problem with either decision...

If someone wants somewhere to park their RV for the day to save on fuel I can get 1 in my back yard if the need arises... but will have to run it by the wife as well lol
