I'm a high school photography teacher and final projects are coming up for my first year students. One option they have is photojournalism/photojournalistic style. I'm looking for images to show them the idea of capturing events, moods, set ups related to a topic (i.e. you don't have to capture a soldier to make a photo about the Iraq war). I'm also allowing them to try photojournalistic style (most are under 16 so higher level event and "issue" photography is challenging), and was wondering if anyone could post a few candids they have that could be good examples of this. Thanks!

Photojournalism is a wide ranging topic. Depending on the nature of assignment you could have a lot of different possiblities.

Here are a few examples that you could find in any newspaper or magizine.

Human Interest

Environmental Portrait

Food

Travel

Sports

I hope this helps.

I've only just gotten out of my comfort zone and gone outdoors to take pictures. It's so hard the first time around to talk to strangers but once you get going it's so much fun.

Thanks so far. Great images. And yes, it is a wide ranging topic, which is good or bad for high schoolers. Good for the creative motivated types who can take any idea and run with it. Bad for those who struggle with open ended assignments as they still have trouble with their creativity or thinking of ideas.

Also, we are shooting 35mm B&W so they'll really have to exercise patience and smart viewfinder composition to get those "moments"
