Originally posted by muckpond: as a survivor participant of the 2005 GTG, i highly recommend this group of people. i am going to be all over the place this summer and don't know that i will be able to get out there, but i strongly encourage anyone who is on the fence to get out there and go.
i had the best time running around with the DPCers. it was wonderful to not be the only one in the group who wants to stop and take pictures of fire hydrants and other miscellaneous crap. and besides the immediate camaraderie, i made some great friends. |
Yes, please come play again! I had a great time and couldn't imagine a DC GTG without you in it. :-)
I agree with the other comments about the 2005 GTG. It was really amazing! Clara & Terry did an amazing job coordinating everyting and making sure so many people felt welcome. I'm sure that this year will be equally welcoming and fun, so please don't hesitate to make the effort.
Personally, it was my 1st GTG - and has been pretty difficult to match (although every GTG I've attended has been REALLY cool!). I plan to get there earlier in the day, so that I can hit the zoo... I'll still be around for the nighttime activities too. :-)

I was just at the zoo today. Really, you can't go there too often ;-) I recommend getting there early on a Saturday (say, 8:00ish) to beat the crowds. Traffic is lighter, parking's easier, and you can see the animals much better when you don't have boatloads of strollers in your way! Plus on a hot day most of the animals are likely to be more active when it's cooler. |

Maybe that could be the meeting place for the morning, or at least for one group.

I'm gonna try to swing it. Not sure this far out what I have going on, and swinging down from Jersey shore is never easy on a weekend with the traffic ;) |

Okay, wsl and digitalpins, you're on the list.
We'll most likely hook up in a few different places at a few different times. I still need to read up on how the last one worked.
For example, I liked the idea of hitting the zoo early in the morning.
As a reminder, everyone's invited to my house for a barbeque dinner.
More info is coming; I've just been busy with other stuff.

I'm still not sure whats going on for that weekend yet, but I'm looking forward to it. Haven't been down there in a few years. Just not sure how long the 4 hour drive with shore traffic will turn into, especially to get there by the morning. |

I'm still in.
BTW, we seem to have started Washington summer weather (daily forecast: hazy, hot and humid; chance of afternoon thunderstorms). Prepare to sweat (or, in the case of ladies, to glow a LOT). We may get lucky and have the humidity drop on that day, but I wouldn't count on it. |

I think Levy is running a group through the Zoo and I will be starting on the Mall. I will be at Union Station at 9AM for anyone who wants to meet up there. Still waiting to hear back from him about further details...
Anyone have suggestions for where they would like to go? I am in DC all the time so I've pretty much been everywhere and have no preference.
The input people give, the happier they'll be with their day. :)

Police Protection? ;-) I spent a good deal of time (all daylight hours) down there during my company's redevelopment of the Frederick Douglass/Stanton Dwellings neighborhood.
That was enough for me. |

I do but 9AM seems a bit early. I have to be on 5:45AM train to make it there at 9. Will you be there at least until 10AM?

If not right there, then in close proximity. A few people wanted to do the mall rather than the zoo. I thought maybe the capitol side of the mall in the morning, meet up with the other group around lunch, then split into groups for afternoon shoots before heading over to Levy's for BBQ. |
