Currently out of town and I can't check my calendar, so put me down as probable. I also have a minivan but it's usually chock full of dog hair, so I can only transport less fastidious people ;-) I can NEVER get all the hair out!

Other place ideas off the top of my head: Arlington Cemetery and the Lee mansion. The view of DC from there is also nice and the Memorial Bridge at sunset is very pretty.

The Folklife festival doesn't start till the 27th.

Jeffrey - PM me if you want me to think of more ideas or if you want help planning. Or if you want me to shut up and just drive ;-)

Put me down as a possibility. Barring anything coming up I'd like to join you guys!

Thanks for the invite Jeffrey. I should be able to make this one. Looking forward to it.

Have minivan, will travel down from B'more County.

Jeffrey (RainMotorSports) PM me your location and I'll see if you're on the way.

Terry (Clubjuggle) and Nick (Nikolai1024) I have 2 guest rooms if you're looking for lodging.

edit: spelling...and please note I drive far better than I type

If you can pick me up from Union station that would be great.

Nikolai: it's about a 20-minute ride on Metro to the Iwo Jima Memorial. Easy Metro access is one reason I'm favoring it as an initial meeting spot.

MaryO: all ideas are welcome - please don't shut up. :)

Everyone else: I'll add you in a minute.

Bump. I promise I won't do this every day, but I want to give folks as much time as possible.

I was wondering if anyone would bump. Too many people might get silly but a whole bunch would still be nice!

I just want to get somewhere out of my hood and take photographs again... like that was ever possible lol.

Just a thought. Being in York, PA about 2 hours or so drive from D.C. I think if I go down I want to be down from more than 6:30pm

Perhaps hit some museums and then meet up with you all. If that sounds appealing to anyone else. (BTW...do they let cameras into the museums?)

***

I also can carry 7-8 passengers in my vehicle. And provide an inflight movie for those other than the pilot and co-pilot. ;)

So if there are those from PA interested in going and perhaps making a whole day of it and hooking up with everyone at 6:30pm - let me know.

In DC, particularly in the summer months and on weekends, parking is much easier to come by in the morning, particularly before 10AM. There are some great spots near Union Station, close to the Capitol Building, which is where you all find me on that morning.

So, if anyone wants to start the GTG early, I would be more than happy to meet up in front of the Capitol Building on the Union Station side. From there, you can do the botanical gardens, the rest of the mall area, eastern market, the library of congress, etc.

Oh, and I can seat 4 besides me.

Very possible that I would come down early for something like this....wearing, of course, my very best walking shoes. :)

I might even come out and play myself.

Just saw this post... Count me in! :-)

Any chance that the Zoo would be added to the attractions? Or maybe some people would like to meet earlier and hit it? Either way, it sounds great - I missed not having a DC GTG last year. :-)

EDIT: I drive a 2 door coupe with a small back seat that will seat 2 comfortably (4 uncomfortably) and will be coming from SW VA, so if anyone needs a ride on the way up I-81 or across I-66 from Winchester, let me know.

Yay another one, yeah anyone who knows DPC members in The tristate area should pm them about this thread.
04/22/2007 11:41:43 PM · #43
if we can find the list of people who attended the one 2 years ago, that'd be 30ish DPCers right there... I'll look.

EDIT: Here we are...

Oh, that works for me. I just didn't know long people wanted to do it. I've only attended one other GTG, and that was just a few hours.

If we start in the morning, we'd also have time to hit the zoo, although it can get hot there during the day.

Sounds interesting! I have a 7-passenger mini-van and my spouse along for the ride.

I'm new to DP Challenge. I would like to mee others who are doing it as well. I heard they are considering removing the Emergence of Man sculpture from Hanes Point. It m ight be worth the opportunity to photo it in its current location before the move.

Regards,
John

Ack! Really? That statue is one of the coolest things I've seen. I play softball out there in the summer. Do you have a link or something talking about moving it?
